The early to mid-nineties were a good time for Honda. The Accord, Prelude, NSX, Civic, were all high quality and competitive.

The 90's were one of the best decades for cars! Honda made so many sports cars and coupes along with all the rest of the Japanese brands. The 2000's were the death of most of them and became a dull stale decade, much like the 70's and 80's. Its mind blowing to see how much an NSX still fetches 20 years later!!! I miss the amount of amazing cars that we had in the 90's!

So your telling me that the 65 grand 700hp hellcat isn't as fun as the 80 grand 1990s NSX!? Or a 2014 Camaro Z28 track monster for 73 grand? Hey the 90's may have been ok, but my friend you are living in the best decade for performance!

The 2000's had the EVO, STI, and GT-R so it did have it's positives. Performance cars today blow the old NSX and 90's sports cars away. We are living in a golden age of performance. Toyota and Honda are finally bringing back performance cars. The Mustang and Camaro are no longer lead sled muscle cars but true performance sport cars. The Europeans are putting out some of the fastest and most reliable cars they've made in decades. For example the US is finally getting RS cars from Audi and more AMG models from Mercedes. Not to mention some of these cars are getting much better MPGs making them a lot more livable and affordable. The reason the NSX is so rare is because of its price tag when new. $81,000 in 1995 is $130,000 in today's money. That's Porsche 911 territory. On the Japanese performance side the Supra was half the price. So the NSX didn't really have market. It's an interesting car and a good historical benchmark but it's not really worth owning.

It was a shame Acura couldn't find a way to package in over 300hp. That 270 hp number was really under whelming when compared to other cars of the era especially other super cars. You could buy a camaro with 275 hp. Kind of relegated the NSX to also ran status during the day. I know they've gotten really popular with car speculators but when they first came out they were disappointing when compared to Ferrari and Lamborghini. That's what I remember.
@dr.lyleevans6915

There was a gentlemen’s agreement at the time between the Japanese automakers to not exceed 276 horsepower. That’s why most sports cars from that era (Supra, RX-7, 3000 GT VR-4, NSX, 300ZX TT etc) has 270-300 hp (a few extra ponies were advertised for non-Japanese markets)

Okay, so, the Targa added over 100 lbs, it decreased rigidity, it was crazy loud with the top off (because it wasn't designed to be open topped), the loss of rigidity apparently resulted in increased understeer (front end plow), loss of agility is terrible news for a mid engine car, as it's sacrificing so much for it. YEah, no yeah... Way too much lost for a big sunroof.

95lbs more is too much for that roof
@dr.lyleevans6915
4 жыл бұрын
It’s because of extra chassis bracing. Same with convertibles; most people think they would be lighter without a roof, but extra chassis bracing to make up for structural rigidity lost due to having no roof (along with the cloth/hard top structure and motor etc) adds up to more weight than the original. I agree though, having a targa top isn’t worth the extra price and weight.

Ahh when cars were cars, None of this "My DCT can shift faster then yours" bullshit, No "It can gor around the Nurburgring in 7xx" Shit, SO tired of that, Cars back then werent about marketing like they are today, You could drive them and enjoy them so much differently back in the 90s, Not saying better tech is a bad thing, But i think for the most part, Its not making cars better, Atleast n alot of ways.

This was, and still is, one of the best handling cars you could buy. As for your straight line acceleration, who gives a fuck? 1/4 mile times, unless stupidly quick, are not impressive. I've seen fucking schools buses do 10s standing on their rear wheels the entire quarter mile. That is literally a fucking box. Going fast in a straight line is NOT hard to do, and is the single most worthless performance stat to brag about. Let alone to be the singular focus. The NSX will take turns without even trying that'll put your grocery getter in the ditch. Styling was NOT the reason this was called the Japanese Ferrari. These cars were so well built and engineered that even doubling the power didn't upset the chassis.

I’ve had multiple 200+ mph Corvettes (hit am indicated 212 in my 02’Z06), several muscle cars that ran 10’s and 11’s, 350Z’s, BMW’s, AMG Benz’s, Porsche’s etc.; I would love to have an NSX. They were crazy tech for the time. When they came out in 91’, they performed as well as the comparable Ferrari (348) w/ far more reliability. They were cheaper to boot. The VVTi-L system they used was really good at the time as well. There are just so many intangibles.
