I just test drove a 16 Tacoma over the weekend. Quad Cab/5ft Sport v6. I love it, they definitely improved handling, road manners and reducing outside noise levels compared to the previous generation. The interior does looks nice compared to my dad's 99 Taco Off Road. We plan to upgrade his truck to a 2016. Seems dealers are barely getting them on their lots. My local dealer had 3 of which none of the color we wanted. It rides really nice, and very quiet. The 7 inch hi-res multimedia screen was a nice upgrade. From what they stated, the sport model and off-road will get navigation standard for those upper trims. Ride height was nice, thick steering wheel and overall nice viewing angles, the back seats for quad cab were roomy for a person less than 5'10.

Everyone says "toyota was lazy, they used the same design for 10 years!", but when I'm looking for a truck, Im looking for the most capable and proven platform. I dont want some brand-new untested design. I love the new Tacoma but it will probably be two years before I would even consider buying one.

For most assembly-line produced vehicles in N. America, first year is always the demo year. Except for Chrysler products, where it is first 2 years. OTOE the 2 years prior to the last year of a model are usually the best. In the last year they tent to cut down on options and comfort features like quality of interiors and soundproofing.

There is a lot of truth in what is being said here. I own top of the line 2005 GMC Canyon with 135k miles and I feel the need to chime in. The vehicle has been sadly a disappointment to me. I own my vehicle for a long time and within the first couple of months the heated seats went out and after four visits to the dealer I agreed that they were not going to work. Window regulator on both the driver and passenger side went out. Had my fair problem with transmission problems but nothing too costly. Check engine light comes on like it is Christmas and that is so annoying. Throwing up codes like reduces power mode and needing to change out the gas pedal because of faulty sensor. Going to the dealer just for that diagnostic is $135.00. I have lost count on the number of times I have changed out my brake lights. Silly stupid stuff that should hold up, hence albeit the issue of durability. I am a patriot and I want to put my money in American cars and I hate to say it but the Tacoma's reputation precedes itself. It is what most people say it is and it is durable. I have watched all the new reviews for the new Canyon and Colorado and I find it interesting how the reviewers try to discredit the Tacoma because it is still a relatively old design. So what? It is way more durable than my Canyon. I would stay well clear of the GM or Chevy line up for some time until they can prove themselves short of perhaps discontinuing this line up in a couple of years.

The fact of the matter is that anyone who actually uses their truck as a truck would pick the Tacoma if they are at all rational. Toyotas are respected and used around the world as offroad vehicles. Just a bunch of people that could get by with a Fiat 500 but like trucks.

This makes me want to go trade my 2nd gen in right now! Pretty good Toyota can take a truck, make it a great off roader, fun to drive, and a beautiful truck, and the only thing GM has going for it, is the interior is better and quieter. I could care less about interior and interior noise! I'd rather sit on a bucket and have to wear ear plugs to drive it than to have a GM product.

I love this little truck.... but drum brakes are annoying to find on a 2016 pickup. Also I just can't deal with how a small truck with a 3.5L gets same or worse than my 2015 F150 with a twin turbo 3.5L. Other than the size and price what would compel me to get a little truck like this. If I could get at least a few more MPG and similar power as my full size I might actually get a mid size truck.

Kinda confusing how it has so many caveats and yet its spot at the top looks so secure...OK a little extra off road capability is implied, maybe it's a wee bit more "work truck" in its execution and that's a significant chunk of its market, but can we just admit that its spot at the top has more to do with the brand and its buyers than the vehicle itself?

Alex Kochan If unions caused inefficiencies, places like Norway and Sweden would produce some of the worst living conditions, labour productivity and machines, and we all know some of the most advanced well designed stuff comes from Sweden, from the koenigsegg to Volvo, and Scania trucks, they are also some of the "happiest" countries in the world, no it's how the unions are run and how self serving the upper people are in the unions, watch a swedish road crew in action and you will see what I mean. I work for a Navistar dealership which had mexicans make trucks for us for awhile, we shut down most of the plants because workers would bring stuff in they werent supposed to (like beer) and drink it on the assembly line, if the foreman came by they would jam their garbage inside the truck frame, and even oil pans. How did we fine out? well lets say that the trucks had a lot of low oil pressure problems from factory. Anyways, the Toyota stuff is better than GM's BECAUSE it's designed and engineered better.

I give credit to the Colorado for having the nicer interior, but it doesn't change the fact that past GM midsized trucks weren't that good. The Tacoma has a proven history, Toyota's reliability, solid off roading & truck capabilities, and of course it has by far the best resale value in it's class. Tacoma does the trucking duty best which is the main purpose in buying a truck. Nissan Frontier isn't bad either.

+BoostedInline6 It's definitely "cushier." If I had to choose a midsize pickup to sleep in, I'd pick the Canyon or Colorado.

+BoostedInline6 I don't know where they got that from either. Its so plasticky, looks like something from a 2002 impala... real cheap and dated looking. Great job GM, just sums up one more crappy usa vehicle that I had high hopes for but will never buy. 3 years and those things start rattling and falling apart, no question. Not to mention at 5 years you get 25% residual when you sell it.

ponchoman49 I've been in both. They both have their perks, but the GM looks a bit more toy-like and has soft, squishy seats, while the Tacoma has a more rugged-feeling truck-like interior and the seats are firmer but more supportive. It's pretty subjective which is "better," but I was not impressed by anything about the GM other than the steering wheel, which I only liked slightly better than the Tacoma's.

+BoostedInline6 Based on that stupid unreliable red car you have over there, I would challenge you to go and drive something not made by Toyota, anything.

+PETER MAINWALD Price hasn't changed from the earlier SR5's. In fact it is a better deal because you'll have more space, with the better engine the gas mileage should relatively stay the same.

Mentally Challenged Viking Your name fits you well... How about most small business owners? delivery vehicles that would rather have the hauling capacity of a larger bed.. MANY would love a single cab... Just not you... and honestly, you dont matter much anyways so go sod off
