People in general don't know how to get Windows sounds out of these things (all Windows-generated audio outside of ASIO DAW use.) To do that, you short the S/PDIF in to out with a cable in the back, set Windows to use S/PDIF as main out. In CueMix (Motu mixer) buss 1, set that to S/PDIF out too. Then - on 2nd, 3rd and/or 4th buss, allow S/PDIF input and route each appropriately, like to MAIN OUT ANALOG or whatever else you like. Now, you can control Windows audio like a normal PC. All 4 busses are active 100% of the time - it is all in how you set it as for muted output or not.

I wonder why they have those long plastic rods for the POTs? maybe it's interference? idk would be interesting to chat with the engineers about that

I’ve had two of these, one I had to replace the Philips PDI1394 chip (100 pin QFP), that was fun! The mechanical mounting of the transformers is poor - dry joints there are common too.

Hello there, I have the same card. Works for several hours then gives issues, digital cut off of sound.. After a couple a days on and off it stops working altogether. If I leave it unplugged some days, it works again and the whole thing starts all over. We replaced all the caps on it except the one you are replacing in the video. Do you thing it might make a difference, any help is welcome, bought it from ebay ... i've spent too much money in this non working interface.

Sick! I have the MOTU Traveler. Their drivers were great but after 5 days' of uptime, they would bring down the PC (stop error 0xD1.) We worked together on it and I had the perfected release driver was in my hands by that night. They are a great company, for other reasons too. Units have ROCK solid drivers, which is more than half the game when looking to buy one of these things. 10-24v DC input, polarity doesn't matter. Rock on!!! The mic pres are known to be of super quality for the price. My unit is the type they have on mobile rigs to record concerts but it is still boss for the home studio all the same. Or professional studio too.

This is off topic but maybe you have advice. I got a sony xplod boombox and it has a problem with high-pitch static in the background. It’s not BLARING but the static is definitely noticeable on CDs and aux input. Any ways to decrease the static? Or is it just stuck that way

Owner had a price in mind. I made 50 bucks so for that I am not doing anything more than the absolute minimum. Can't charge more because they will just toss it and find a used one cheap.

Let me ask you a bit off topic. Brother in law's Crossly CR88 busted the square belt on the CD drawer. Is it easier to replace with another CD player or to find the correct 4in belt, 1 3/16"dia(Can't find them anywhere). Would like to put his music box back together for him. Cougars and 12voltvids are Canada's best!

Well you can probably find an o-ring that will replace that belt, as it's just a belt to open and close the tray nothing special. You can go on eBay and buy a universal belt kit I bought several Square belt kits for like five bucks and you get 30 different size belts and one of them is going to fit. If you know the size you could order it it will be numbered SBS and then the size in inches so a 4-in belt measured in circumference would be an sbs4.0. you can buy belts from kpcomponents.co

Looks like a handy bit of kit, roughly 20 years old and just a cap and fuse to fix it :-D I'm sure there are units now that are tiny in comparison, but i like old tech.

Actually, they’re about the same size; because most of the room required is dictated by the connectors. The primary difference is that new ones are USB 3 or Thunderbolt; not FireWire.

I have a similar Motu unit but Motu no longer repairs this and Motu refuses to share schematic to help repair by third party shop. This is now a 1000USD paperweight.

Customer brings it in and says if you can get it working for 50 bucks do it otherwise just scrap it. He had 1 tape to recover. So it's change the bad part and move on. A fuse is just a strand of wire that will melt and open the circuit if it exceeds the current limit of the wire.
