I went on a quest to French Polynesia, in the South Pacific, to climb a mountain peak known as Mouaputa, which is located on the rugged and beautiful island of Moorea. Situated just Northwest of Tahiti, Moorea has some of the most rugged mountains in the world, some of which have never even been climbed.
My trip to French Polynesia began on Saturday, June 8, 2024, where I took a red-eye flight over to Tahiti and landed there on Sunday morning. After renting a car, I took the ferry over to nearby Moorea, and upon finally beholding the stunning Mouaputa with my own eyes up close, I could hardly contain my excitement as I made preparations for a suitable plan of attack on the mountain peak. Most notably, the weather was wet and rainy when I arrived, and a muddy trail would preclude any possibility of a summit attempt.
So I checked into my nearby Airbnb at Cook's Bay that afternoon and spent the next few days roaming the island in search of adventure and tropical fish.
I hope you enjoy my journey as I take you along on this epic South Pacific island adventure.
