Starting at Lake McDonald Lodge, we head up the Sperry Chalet trail for about 1.5 miles and then turn off on the Mount Brown Trail. Its another 3.5 miles to the Mount Brown lookout that boasts fantastic panoramic views of Glacier National Park as well as a view of Lake McDonald that is extremely different than most people see from the shores. Mountain goats are abundant along the way and love to use the trail. Just be sure to get off of the trail a safe distance and give them the right of way. As with any trail that has great views, there is a good amount of elevation gain. About 4,300 feet in 5 miles. Not any good options for filtering water, so be sure to pack enough for this 10.5 mile out and back with significant elevation gain. Enjoy the trails!
