I must go do this hike next year (if things go the way I hope they will with the current pandemic). Way back in 2000 I biked up to Berg Lake, also hiked a bit further on foot. That was during a 7000 km solo bicycle trip throughout much of Canada. I've always wanted to go back to backpack the full trail. Just subscriber. Cheers from Thunder Bay (Lake Superior)

@LauraLeanne

For sure depends on your fitness level. It would make for a long two days but if you're up for hiking most of both of those days you totally could. If I were to do it again I think I would do that and then could have a light bag to do the shorter hike for the day around berg and then head out early the third day. I hope that helps!! Check out the full milage and elevation to ensure your legs are good to go for it. The first 9km ish is pretty flat. It's only going to the waterfalls that has switchbacks.

Hi Laura. Love the video, we're doing this in August! When doing a hike like this, what is the easiest way to either carry or to get water on the trail?
@LauraLeanne
3 жыл бұрын
So I started the first day with lots. A few km in there will be lots of lakes. At the first campsite you can see lakes and of course berg lake. I always simply bring either/and a water purifier or tablets (worse tasting but easier) to ensure I don't get sick. But the water was very clear and great!

@LauraLeanne

@user-kb6xn6ig7k it's a remote area but a popular hike! Just inside the bc side of the bc Alberta border at a provincial park. They didn't get into my Yakima but it's easy for them to get in through the top of car wheels and into the engine. Everyone at the trailhead had the same issue when they were back. I would still say it was worth it though! Just don't leave anytyy food. No signs at all of bears. Just brought bear spray with me and have places to store your food at night.

I'm planning to do this trail this summer and am from the US. Do you know how I could get to this park? Like what airport would I fly into and how would I get to the park after I fly in? Is there a train or bus that goes by the park?
@LauraLeanne
3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you for sure but would be shocked if there was any bus. The closest city is jasper alberta but that's tiny. I never saw a bus driving through. Your best bet would be to fly into the closest small airport (Calgary is also about 4 hours away) and rent a car. You'll also need the permit so I'm not sure if I would recommend this hike if that's your only way of getting to the trailhead but you'll have to do a little more digging. I'm not actually from there just did the hike! 😊

Laura Leanne Most of my backpacking trips have been around my home in Tennessee. There are some real nice hikes in the Smokies, Cherokee National Forrest, Big South Fork, South Cumberland and Cohutta Wilderness. Traci and I took our kids out west a couple of years before she got sick. Since then, life has been pretty hectic as a single parent. My oldest is getting married next summer and going to grad school, her younger sister is in college studying chemical engineering, and my boys are in their junior year of high school playing football. I’ll probably have more time to hike when they graduate in a couple of years.

The visitors center is employed by locals for only a couple months a year. Be gentle with them. They should know more but because they are just seasonal they usually hire new staff each year. Ask the tour center, "have you done this hike?" Then you will know the type of information youll receive. There are better resources for information of course online. Like these KZitem videos, forums, comments in hiking apps etc. But as a seasoned hiker/camper people should know to expect the unexpected. It's part of the adventure.

I think that's exactly my point. It was an info center that didn't say anything about mice and me saying in the video next door they got daily for a month that people come by asking for a vacuum since mice got in people's car. When it comes to wifi when you google in this area it shows location has wifi. Why I bought it up. I don't think I'm fantastic at editing but the knowledge I'm passing along isn't wrong.
