I was a Production Assistant for this commercial, which was filmed in Presidio Park, San Diego (October 1985). My "big" contribution was locating the farm tractor (see :24), which I found in Guatay (San Diego's east county). What a fun gig.

Cheesy as it sounds, this commercial made me find the plastic 70s board a neighbor gave me and try to learn to kickturn. 31 years later, I am still charging with a halfpipe in my back yard at 41 years old! I never forgot this ad, though.

THis commercial takes me back to my youth in Los Angeles, California. Eventhough I wasn't country it made feel like I was. They don't make commercials like this anymore.

I just noticed the same thing. If you pause at 0:24, you can clearly see that it's Tony Hawk. But if you go back, he's everywhere (I'm basing that on matching his clothes). He's the very last skater at 0:11 (out of focus). Looks like his legs doing the flip at 0:13, and all the tricks from 0:16 to 0:21.

It's been here for 2 1/2 years. Sorry if you couldn't find it earlier. Should I change the search tags for it? Actually, I'm thinking of reuploading it and other things in the higher resolution. It will have a different address then.

I started freestyle skateboarding a little bit before this commercial aired. Every time I saw it on tv, I got pumped and went out to work on my freestyle, but not without a Mountain Dew to "stay cool when it got hot". Kidding about the mountain dew part, but this was a well done commercial that resonated with many skaters and start up skaters back then. I went on to being in a "Popsicle Twister" commercial for my own freestyle skateboarding skills along side Chet Thomas who skated the ramps in that commercial during Summer of 1990-91. That commercial and other Hollywood tv spots and action sport shows I was involved with for skateboarding starts at the 22 minute mark on the timeline of my documentary titled 'DETERMINATION" Full Skateboarding Documentary. Or you can watch that from the following link on my channel kzitem.info/news/bejne/l6mEnZufo3OJdqAm

This is a very important MD commercial, as it is the link between hicks and skaters in the MD marketing evolution chart. It wasn't immediate, but slowly but surely MD realized rich suburban punks were much more likely to improve their sales than monster-truck/horse water-skiing loving bumpkins.

"Sometimes Soooongs....don't go as they should, Hurts So Good." Haha! TV commercials have repurposed popular original songs dating back to the 1950's 60's. Before television, I'm sure plenty of radio jingles borrowed similar popular song sounds as well. Some have borrowed without permission in the past, while I'm sure most have asked permission in advance. By the way, Only John Mellencamp would have any leverage in this commercial jingle since it's his song. Footloose and Kevin Bacon have nothing to do with it.
