Blown gasket. I owned one in 1975 had to rebuild it 3 or 4 times.I finally put a v6 in my . I l loved that car. Would love to find another one. Look forward to watching you do this. It will fly after you put the v8 in it. Just be ready the first time 😁😁

The head is heavier than the block, seriously what did those cars in was a switch that shut off the fuel pump whenever the oil light came on, you couldn't start your car after an oil change unless you knew the two pins you had to jump, this sent most of them to the junkyard to an early death, I used to bet people I can put a steering column out of a Vega into a Cadillac and drive it, don't do that at home, those GM steering column tilt wheels from that era would loosen and come apart in your hands while you were driving,( I had one fall apart on me at a stop sign) that's what necessitated the invention of loctite.. I have a friend that put a small block into one of those and he twisted it like a pretzel., Vegas and pintos were the first unibody cars. Be prepared to straighten that body good luck I think they're pretty good-looking cars.
