@rpleal2469 My religion is my life. It is not something that I pay attention to simply when it suits me or other people. I do have to bring my personal beliefs into my cooking as I cook dishes in accordance with the rules of my faith. If I was simply to say "hello" at the beginning of every dish, regardless of the culture of that dish, then how would that be different to saying what I say now?

Titli: I only just discovered your channel and have to say you are the most charming, enthusiastic tutor in the kitchen! I love this recipe and, as others have noted about it having potatoes in the Midwest, I will definitely try your version for a lovely departure from what I'm used to. Thank you!

Apparently, if you consume large (as in several tablespoons) of nutmeg you can get a kind of intoxication. I find it odd that the Saudis should ban the import of nutmeg and yet they are about the 4th biggest importer of cigarettes. Which causes more harm?

Actually it's not. For example, depending on which Mahdhab you follow, some types of fish are either halal or haram. Shrimp, for example. The Saudis passed a fatwa declaring nutmeg to be haram and stopped its import and sale as a pure spice. However, I believe it is available in KSA as a minor ingredient in commercially made spice mixtures.

@rpleal2469 It's not a Lebanese greeting. It's a muslim greeting. Should I say kalimera at the start of Greek recipes, merhaba at the start of Turkish, howdy at the start of American dishes, bonjour at the start of French.... I think not. I'll stick to the greeting given to us by Allah swt. Peace upon you.

I don't care what nationality you are. I've been to Greece many times and had it served to me in restaurants made with lamb and with beef. And I can taste the difference. And I prefer it with lamb.

@ksenos69 I don't quite understand the link between cinnamon and rice pudding. My moussaka doesn't taste like a rice pudding. I like moussaka, and I like rice pudding so I do understand the difference.

It depends on the aubergine. Some can be quite bitter, but other varieties are not bitter at all. I think that not salting the aubegines is just plain lazy ;-)

My only concern is potatoes. With all the Moussaka I've eaten here in the Midwest it's always had a layer of sliced potato in it. I wonder if that's the way the Greeks make it or is that just an Americanized version that we eat here? Nonetheless, I will indeed be trying your recipe. You haven't steered me wrong yet.

my vegetarian husband just cooks moussaka without the meat. He makes a separate chunky tomato sort of sauce instead and uses that instead of the meat sauce. He uses soy milk to make the white sauce. no cheese in his recipe either.. (dairy free, gluten free, meat free.) he some how makes it taste really good though..

khuda hafiz isnt islamic its more of a cultural saying, we usually say `salamualaikum both for hello and bye also is Titli Nihaan your original name or did you change it? in islam regardless or your fathers religion you keep your fathers name (unless u have absolute no clue what his name is) and muslims do not have to have islamic names, they can simply have any name with a good meaning :)

A pleasure, as always. I'm a fan of moussaka and I know the real thing. I'm looking forward to it. Just a couple of things, I heard a few years ago that it is no longer necessary to sweat aubergines. I don't know if this is true, but I tend not to because I don't want the salt and I don't mind the result. The other thing, one that made me laugh, was the introduction of ingredients as the video played that hadn't been mentioned at the start; grape juice, nutmeg, goat cheese, eggs, stock.

I love moussaka! the last recipe I cooked (Back in culinary arts school) was completely different! it had lots of cummin and had an inside layer of goat cheese plus the eggplant was grilled, it was delicious. Your recipe look marvelous! I agree with you, the perfect side dish would be a Lettuce and Arugula salad with toasted almonds and a nice Olive oil vinagrette. Thanks TITLI!!!! I love your show!!

I'm greek and I can say that this recipe is quite accurate. That is more or less the same way I do it except that I don't put any eggs whatsoever, use zuchinis along with aubergines and of course make bechamel instead of custard. Also I believe beef tastes better for this recipe, but you could use any type of red meat I guess. Greetings from Greece!
