My mom was pregnant with quadruplets, identical triplets and one fraternal. She lost one 9 weeks into the pregnancy and then her water broke at 24 weeks. They kept her in the hospital delaying her delivery for a week, to give them a better chance of survival. She had an emergency c section at 25 weeks, and lost one of my sisters at 10 hours old. She had gotten a really bad infection from when the water broke. She took almost the entirety of the infection, and one of the other sisters got a very small amount and the third got none of it. The one who passed was named Gretchen and she saved my other sisters lives. My mom had gotten sepsis during delivery and almost died as well. My twin sisters are now 14 years old and freshmen in highschool. They were born 1 pound 11 ounces and 1 pound 12 ounces. Born in February and in the nicu for 95 days. By the time Halloween came around they were still so small that they actually wore build a bear outfits for costumes. They are the light of my life and I am so grateful and feel so blessed to be their sister.

My hubby was born 3 months premature. His mother felt something was hanging out of her and it turned out his umbilical cord had come out. Her cervix was too weak to hold him. She got c section and he staying the NICU for the remaining 3 months. His mother says they were lucky he was born in NZ (they had just immigrated from Korea at the time) because in Korea they wouldnt have even tried to save him (she used to work as a pedaetric nurse in Korea) but in NZ they did everything they could to save him. He's a big man now, you wouldnt think he was born so tiny.

@s4di.3 I'm so sorry that you went through that. Obviously, everything is subjective, and there is always worse, but I'd still kill to not have had to wait while my son was resuscitated five feet away from me while nobody told me what was happening. Not have to watch my son fight for his life for months with countless alarms on a daily basis screaming in my ear. Not needing someone else's permission to interact with my son or having an empty bassinet for 114 nights and 115 mornings. Not bringing him home on a monitor for a while after we finally got to bring him home or have him still in and out of the hospital for oxygen needs when he gets sick. I really am so sorry for your loss, that is terrible, but it doesn't disqualify my suffering or my sons. I'm sorry if I've misunderstood you. It just came off as trying to compete in the suffering Olympics and I'm very sensitive about the very real trauma that we went through, especially since we just spent the first week of January in the hospital while my son was stuck on oxygen...again.

My mom remembers the doctors being a little heartless by them saying "they will probably not survive so we are hoing to put your babys on your chest to help your recovery." They later apologize but the damage was done. The doctors also said if the girl survived for long, she wont be able to breath or talk or walk or eat like a normal person.
