In your opinion, who's the best villain of all-time?
@daveferrato3400
2 жыл бұрын
The best villain is the villain who doesn't see themselves as a villain. Rather he sees himself as a noble benefactor instead of a villain. Take for example Thanos, Magneto, Apocalypse, Anakin Skywalker, they see themselves as a benefit to Thanos - Life, Magneto - Mutants, Apocalypse - Humanity/Mutantkind, Anakin - Life for Padama.

@@BlackieNuff Examples: Darth Vader (before his redemption) the Joker (specifically, Heath Ledger's version) Thanos I think, though, that there is a distinction between a villain that is seen as a hero or a villain that fans appreciate for being a powerful and complex opposing force. - Darth Vader is a bad guy. The Rebels are the good guys that fans want to see win the day. But, when Darth Vader shows up (in "Rogue One", for example) fans want to see Darth Vader demonstrate how powerful he is (the hallway scene). (Similarly, we see Luke Skywalker do a similar scene in the Mandalorian cutting his way through Dark Troopers instead of Rebel soldiers). - Thanos is a bad guy. He's powerful and just about unstoppable. He basically tosses the good guys around. Thanos also has his own self-righteous "code". His plan is genocide across the universe. I think fans get disappointed when a villain is too easily defeated - the challenge is too small. In this case, Thanos wins and does the unthinkable. - The Joker (Heath Ledger) is a bad guy. Fans want to hear and see his twisted view of the moral "code" society has. They want to hear his one liners and his speeches. But, in the end, I think most people want to see Darth Vader defeated (and even better, redeemed). They want to see Thanos' mass murder undone and the heroes victorious, overcoming immeasurable odds. They want to see Batman defeat the Joker and basically claw his way out of the "moral" trap the Joker laid for him (and society). But, then again, there are the few people in society with mental issues that seem to be triggered by seeing characters like the Joker. I don't want to get into detail, but I think what happened in the Aurora movie theater.

Anakin did bring balance to the force. By the start of the movie there are two sith against thousands of Jedi, by the end there are two sith against two Jedi. The Jedi never understood what balance means.

About Anakin... he did brought balance to the force, after he did what he did as Darth Vader, there were 2 Jedis and 2 Siths left. If that's not balance, I don't know what is. The force was completely unbalanced before him, way too many Jedi.

Harvey Dent ALWAYS had the possibility of turning to Evil. He DECIEVED Rachel into going out with him by using his double-headed coin. The very use of the double-headed coin, long before the advent of the Joker shows that Harvey Dent had a questionable relationship with morality.

Most of this list is villains that were retconned into heroes in prequels. Harvey Dent and Phoenix are the only ones who were actually heroes when introduced and a couple others were decent people but not really heroes. Saruman is a grey area - The Hobbit was written first and he was still good there, but Lord of the Rings was filmed first where he is evil.

Tony Stark also became a villain in my eyes when he betrayed his friends by signing the Accords behind their backs without debating it first.
@JasonICECarson
2 жыл бұрын
I mean, you are entitled to your ideas and opinions, but Tony never became a villain. Accepting responsibility for your actions and the collateral damage and innocent lives that could've been prevented doesn't make you a villain just because you agree with the government or some sort of higher governing power's rules on accountability. This just follows the logic that if you are a superpowered vigilante, that you're not above the law just because you can do things no ordinary person can do, and that society is accepting of vigilante "justice" since vigilantism is illegal in modern day law in the US. To get back on track, Tony never forced his friends to sign the Accords, it was their individual right to sign them or face time behind bars. General Ross is the "villain" in this case for having the ultimatum hang over their heads.
@shareefhaddad2377
2 жыл бұрын
@@JasonICECarson to elaborate further on my point, Tony signed the accords to save himself from a hypocritical government (official) that wants control of the Avengers to use their powers for their self-serving agendas. All this talk about accountability, no matter how much truth there is to it, is a cover for the government’s desire to shift the blame entirely on the Avengers and maintain a monopoly over superhero activity. Back to Tony, however, he was enslaved to his fear that the Avengers and the world can’t survive without him and his “guidance”(or in my terms, misguidance), and would not accept any alternatives from other sources. That fear even extended to his interactions with Peter Parker, and his desire to destroy Thanos, and it cost him dearly.
