A different video to my usual ones and a format I’ll make more of in the future. I want to share some of the challenges I’ve faced after making a pretty spontaneous move to a new country (I moved from Scotland to Barcelona) to live with my partner. Leaving the UK and living abroad is something I’ve always wanted to do - I think a lot of people want to do this but actually doing it is quite hard and takes a lot of work. Getting the visas and paperwork is obviously a lot of work - and it’s the first thing that comes to mind - but also the social side to it can be exhausting and very daunting to begin with.
I’ve learned a lot about what I’m capable of through this whole process. I’m a lot braver than I thought I was but I’ve had to acknowledge my weaknesses and push myself really hard. Healing my past traumas became a priority: when I was somewhere familiar it was easier to function in society with a bunch of unresolved issues and poor mental health. On one hand being in a new environment helps with mental health but no amount of moving can fix mental dysfunction that needs proper focus and work to heal.
If you’ve been through something similar I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
