Wonderful guys. Just wonderful. Having moved and renovated a number of older properties, I would say breath and give yourselves time to see just how things flow and give yourselves time to settle and recover from the stress of moving. You will make a fabulous job but you can live with it all for a good while. Then know how the light works and how you really, really want the rooms to finally be. ⭐️

Thank you so much, Jill! 😊 That’s such great advice. We definitely plan to take our time and really settle in before making any big changes. It’ll be good to see how the light flows through the rooms and how we naturally start using the space. After all the stress of moving, we’re looking forward to just enjoying the cottage for a while! Thanks again for your kind words and wisdom!

Definitely. We moved into a 200 + year old house 20 months ago and we have worked quite fast but also changed our minds about what we wanted, so it's best not to rush it. I would also like to paint the kitchen a different colour, but as it was only done a year ago, I'm not sharing that with my parther yet!
@TwoMenTheirDog

Sounds like you’re well into the journey, David! It's funny how minds change once you live in a space for a bit, right? We're taking the same approach, trying not to rush things and enjoying the process (even though I might be quietly dreaming of some new colours too 😉). Thanks for sharing, and best of luck with the continued work on your home-it sounds like you're doing an amazing job!

Welcome to your new home. Benjamin clearly loves it is great to see him sniff around the corners. Beautiful outlook and peaceful location you will sleep well. The kitchen is super nice, large and with lots of cabinets, etc. Lovely! We are sure that after you guys place your furniture and decorations it will be a very cozy home. And Benji exploring and inspecting every corner 🤣; soon he will be feeling completely at home. Congratulations on the new home. I love the spiral staircase in the kitchen. I have had the fridge/freezer next to the ovens for a few years now and it has never been a problem. You will get used to it. I made the fridge look like it was meant to be there rather than looking like an afterthought by putting a shelf unit above the fridge made from timber matching the bench tops. Great place for the cook books.

Just wanted to say huge congrats guys. You did it. The cottage is way nicer than it appeared on first glance - still hate that spiral staircase though! The kitchen one is so nice that it makes the other one look even worse. For me, the high points were the gardens and most of all, the courtyard off the bedroom! Adam will make that so wonderful. I used to have a courtyard garden off my bedroom in my flat in London, right about the same time, and it was absolutely my pride and joy. Sleeping with that door open in the summer will be a delight, and a log burner with a TV over that fireplace, what a dream! Also thinking about that outhouse, wouldn't that be a great laundry room next to the garden, so you don't have to have your much hated washing machine in the kitchen with all the noise it makes? We put a laundry into our entrance hall and will be covering it all in big doors. Also I have some info about your damp wall. Are you on insta so perhaps I could send you a private message?

Thank you so much, David! We’re over the moon to finally be here, and we’re glad the cottage has surpassed your expectations. The courtyard off the bedroom is going to be Adam’s little paradise, for sure! Totally with you on sleeping with that door open in the summer-it’ll be amazing. The log burner and TV idea sounds perfect too, it’s definitely something we’re considering. And yes, we’ve been thinking about converting the outhouse into a laundry room-that would be a dream setup, and free up the kitchen! We’d love to hear more about the damp wall situation and any advice you have-feel free to reach out to us on Instagram. Cheers! instagram.com/benjis_newmore/

Hi Fellas. Good for you.. With our selves in highland many have opted for a MULTI FULE BURNER.. This comes with a recessed water tank as part of the stove..As the stove heats a pump pushes the hot water round your system to make hot water for showers and sinks, as the hot water created, goes back to the main water tank that supply's the cottage.. This system can work also in conjunction with oil system ...When water is being heated so the stove dose most of the work or as a stand alone system....See what you think!! A lot of folks have used a company locally known as bonk and co in Inverness but their are many multi fuel stoves on the market not just the wood burning type..... Kindness fellas your way.. Thanks so much for the great info, Neil! 😊 A multi-fuel burner with a water tank sounds like a really practical option, especially up here in Scotland. We’ll definitely look into it-being able to use it alongside an oil system is a big bonus. Bonk and Co sounds like a good place to check out too. Kindness right back to you from the Southern Uplands!

I love the cottage..nice quiet neighbours behind the master bedroom!!LOL am wondering if you could work a door from the 3rd bedroom to the 2nd and eliminate the not so nice spiral stair from the living room that would make a better access to the bathroom for guests. I personally dont like that stair in the living room. As for the damp wall..if its had cement put on it then the wall cant breath ..also maybe some gutter issues there. Anyway its a great wee cottage and looking forward to what you will do over time..Benji is a true labrador..nose to the ground and he has a happy place now
@TwoMenTheirDog

Thank you, Esther! 😊 Haha, yes, the neighbours are certainly quiet behind the master bedroom! That’s an interesting idea about adding a door from the third bedroom to the second and removing the living room spiral staircase. It’s something we considered, but once we moved in, we realised the layout wouldn't quite work. And you’re spot on about the cement causing the damp issues-our plan is to strip it off and repoint with lime mortar so the stone can breathe again. Benji is absolutely loving all the space, nose down, tail wagging! 🐾

A gurr8 intro tour ... so ExCiting ! All three of you are beaming with smiles. Congrats ! ! ! That master bedroom with its own cleaning room and personal walled patio is a gem (i'm not jealous ... ha.). 1st lightbulb: i would immediately convert the swing door of the shower room to a hanging (in the bedroom) roller door to delete the obstruction of a swing door inside the shower room (The hanging, roller door for my bathroom has a body-size built-in mirror on both sides of the hanging door ... that mirror was Rex the carpenter's idea ... that hanging door was his last job B4 moving to Kansas). My mind would also consider a framed clear plexiglass (Home Depot will cut it to size) door [avoid the hazard of broken glass at every opportunity . . . my bungalow has plexiglass (far more durable than glass) windows to thwart burglary access, as well as rose bushes in front of every window]. 2nd lightbulb: That bedroom patio begs for a small, round hot tub which can be screened off with Heavenly Bamboo (the stem is only as thick as the small finger and easy for Adam to trim; and in the winter red berries appear as holiday decorations that our sparrows snack on). Plenty of room remains for your Italian patio mise-en-scene as well.

Thanks so much, Adam! 😊 We’re absolutely thrilled with the master bedroom-it really is a gem, especially with the walled patio. Your idea about converting the shower room door to a hanging roller door is brilliant, and the built-in mirror would be a great touch! We hadn’t thought about plexiglass, but that’s definitely something to consider for durability. And as for the patio, a hot tub sounds like a dream! Loving the idea of using Heavenly Bamboo too-perfect for screening and adding a bit of natural charm. Thanks again for the awesome suggestions and for sharing in our excitement!

@@TwoMenTheirDog... a 2nd thought . . . another option is to switch the staircases. The singer all-iron stairway seems too bold for the kitchen. The white stairway (currently in the living room) would blend in better in the kitchen.

That's an interesting suggestion, Adam! We've thought about various options, and switching the staircases could be a creative solution to better balance the spaces. The Singer staircase does have a bold presence in the kitchen, while the white one could blend more subtly. For now, they're staying put, but we’ll definitely keep all options on the table as we plan things out. Thanks for the idea!

Johnny you said early on that Adam was happy and I wondered how you can tell...😂 then you made me laugh at the end when you got him smiling! It looks lovely.. first thing that came to mind was that open drain right next to the house wall and I wondered what was at the gable end where you have the damp issue.. then it occurred to me, I bet that moisture issue is coming from that drain with the moisture migrating to the lowest point through the soil, potentially under the house to the end wall.. Staircase wise I can't see what all the fuss was about. If anything, decor wise they would probably be better suited if they were swapped with each other, but they are the best solution for the access you have/need. I'm wondering how you got on with the fridge? The first thing I saw was that window sill sticking out. Was there room to squeeze past it and doesn't it interfere with the door being opened? Congratulations overall... looking forward to seeing it furnished...
@TwoMenTheirDog
Күн бұрын
Thanks, Chris! We had an old building specialist come by, and he confirmed that the damp is due to the exterior of the stone wall being painted with non-breathable paint and the use of cement mortar. We'll be stripping that all back and repointing with lime mortar to allow the wall to breathe again. As for the fridge, surprisingly it fits well and the door opens fine. Appreciate the thoughts on the staircase, too-it’s all about making the best use of the space we’ve got for now. Cheers!

The staircae in the kitchen is beautiful, what a lovely piece of history. The one in the front room isnt as pleasing on the eye, however you could fill in the risers and put a runner carpet on it rather than getting rid of it, as it is quite quirky and fits in quite well with your future designs. Maybe your hands are ready to do some maintenance, but maybe i can give the both of you some advice, go living in your house for a view moths or even longer to find out what things you wont to change and will rebuild or whatever the "problems "you may walk into. And like you said this stressful time is not the best time to start working on projects, but enjoy first this beautiful place that you are going to make your new Home....Love to see when the furniture is in the house and if the freezer is fitting in the kitchen.....See you both in the next video and again this must be the best dissension in your live !!!!

Thank you so much! 😊 We’re absolutely in love with the cottage too-it has so much character and space, and Benji’s loving the garden already! We definitely plan to enjoy it for a while before making any big changes, but the damp stone wall issue needs sorting sooner rather than later. We’ll be stripping the white paint off the exterior gable wall and repointing it with lime mortar so the stone can breathe-hopefully before the weather gets too bad! Can’t wait to show you more once the furniture is in. Thanks again for the lovely comment!
