Great advice. 1st time watcher here. We moved to TN from NY 8 years ago. Best decision we could have made. We were very blessed to be able to come a few months prior for a week. We had job interviews set up in advance and spent the week apartment hunting and interviewing. It all came together the last day and we knew God was in it! One last tip. Make sure you alert your bank when you move. we too sold many basics beforehand. After arriving filled 2 carts at Walmart and our bank card declined!! Money was there.. bank didn't realize we moved and declined to protect us!! Alert your bank. God bless

Thanks for watching! Yes, it was the best decision we could have made too! Great advice on the bank. Luckily for us, we didn't have that issue.

Good tips, Mitch. Our push mower died a month before our move, so I bought a new riding mower on sale July 4th because the price was so good and I was worried about dwindling supply the deeper into summer we get. So that was something else we had to make room for. And yes, the cost of moving is very expensive. In our case we hired our son and nephew to do all the heavy lifting, and rented a U-Haul. We then had to factor in gas, hotels, and meals for four people while traveling. Fortunately we were very blessed when we sold our home here in Pennsylvania for more than our asking price, which is easily funding our move. Next Monday we hit the road to our new home in Tellico Plains; we are so excited to become Tennesseeans!

Great tips and agree with all of them. Moves are not always the easiest but watching you through this journey you were meticulous in getting it done. You had a plan and stuck to it, your family also kept your faith and we can see how it pulled you through. Glad everything has worked out and you are getting back to some semblance of normal in your new life/location. God Bless!

Thank you so much for those words Kevin!! This was truly a journey of lifetime and I was so glad my family got to live through this and be able to tell their kids how God pulled us through. It was so nice to go through this Summer without having to unpack and do all the things we did last Summer. We got to relax more and enjoy what this beautiful state has to offer!! God Bless you my friend!

Thank you for the tips Mitch! I keep looking at the boxes we have already packed and thinking about things that I really don’t need. You are absolutely right about “stuff”! Too much frivolous stuff! Pitch ,sell, gift, donate, and shred! We are in need of a new mattress, so I was thinking to not move the mattress, and buy a new one once we get there.

Very helpful on the documentation with the driver license. We took everything you mentioned and it was easy peasy. One thing I would like to mention and add is when you do go for your vehicle plates, make sure to bring your vehicle title, and it MUST be the printed version. In AZ, they have gone to a digital 'eTitle' and TN will NOT accept anything other that the paper title. Their website does not mention bringing any documentation at all. We had to pay for a printed version of AZ title to be shipped to us, which added to the waiting and multiple visits to the county clerk office. Don't know of other states do this, but if it saves one person some extra work and time, my job here is done! :D

Checking on how to obtain any and all documents you will need ahead of time is very important to prevent waits with these state agencies. With all the immigration issues it is insane the hoops that you will jump through. You cannot even change your address with the Post Office without another hoop. Makes me very angry that I cannot move freely within my own Country, USA.

Just an idea to those of you moving with credit. Use a reward credit card for your move and embrace the savings from said card if you are money savvy. I have the money set aside for the move and am going to pay off my credit card same month. Credit card cash back rewards can range from 1%-5%.

I can understand Californians moving but, how much do you price locals out of homes. You run up real estate, rents, and car insurance.
@weintennessee3716
Жыл бұрын
Sorry... I'm not going to take the brunt of that issue. Sure, the influx of folks has somewhat to do with the rise in costs but, home prices has to do with people not moving because the interest rate is too high for folks to buy somewhere else. Thus, that lowers the inventory. You can also thank our government for the rise in inflation also.
@seanjackson8259
Жыл бұрын
I definitely understand your frustration. Real estate and rent are up everywhere except for maybe Detroit, MI and Cleveland, OH. One in 5 in-bound into Tennessee is from CA, so 4 out of 5 are not. Current "fed" policies are creating a huge influx of people into the US, with not enough housing to begin with, which creates a crisis that vastly increases demand...which means higher prices for home rents and sales. Plus, what Mitch mentioned...crazy inflation and the fed trying to stifle it with rate hikes affects both selling and buying. Limited inventory leads to competition and prices rising. Tennessee is amazing for so many reasons and people want to move there, often from less amazing states. Trust me, California....NOT amazing. Jobs will follow, companies will follow (e.g. Smith and Wesson, In N Out Burger), and pay will eventually increase and catch up. But it will really be fed policies that either make this worse or better. On a positive note, the VAST majority of folks moving there from CA and elsewhere are doing so because of TN's policies and way of life. We are absolutely NOT coming there to change the state into where we came from. I literally have a total of 23 friends and relatives that have moved to TN in the past year and a half, and not one of them votes in a "traditional" California manner, if you get my drift.
