Brilliant video man, this colony is absolutely stunning, so glad they're doing well. Also happy the move went well, I really can't wait until they get tons of workers.

The formicarium size is perfect. I would consider moving your heat cable to the side with the water tower if the ants want to keep their brood closer to the heat source. That way they get a good amount of moisture from the humidity from the water tower too. Just an idea.
@Ants_Bas
Жыл бұрын
true but this way you can get condensation
@nathant7437
Жыл бұрын
No, it's not advised to do that because you'll get too much humidity. It is recommended by most people including the owner of tar heel ants to put the heat cable on the other side, away from the water tower.

Personally I had a colony of Camponotus castaneus inside of the mini hearth, I moved them way too early into it, but they did well up until the trash they kept in there began to mold. They got up to about 10-12 workers then started dying off. They're a little bigger than your C. decipiens, and they chose to stay on top of the water tower even though I was heating it on the same side you are. I'd keep a close eye on them, see if they're taking their trash out into the outworld and if not move them out as soon as you can.

Hey buddy , before you move your colony in Tar Heel nest , it’s recommend to Moist the inside of the nest with water , as just wet the floor into the floor and full of the water to the top only for the first time so the colony will be more motivated to move in then only full the water holder half way as what you did but I’m sure they find there way on top of the water holder soon but that what I do all the time and Tar Heel has a video somewhere about it but you did good tho and great video

Camponotus are very slow to grow, much slower than other species. With that in mind it could also be outside factors, such as specific camponotus species, like how my camponotus chromaiodes seems to grow much quicker than my camponotus novaeboracensis. Or it could be the ambient temperature of the nest, the cooler it is the slower they grow.
