it's missing something extra... like a customisable rgb light around the edge, and a motor to slowly control rotation to keep it perpetually falling. maybe even a special edition, where it's a stargate - like those mini stargate models that actually rotate and light up.

I feel like these were novelty items you'd see in the 90s in a hotel or museum gift shop. But I'm sure they're new to a lot of folks AND if it's a little bit of that retro "futuristic" look you're going for, then these accomplish just that.

You should rock it gently first, make sure the sand surface is flat and let it settle for a few minutes. Then turn it quickly. It will fall slower and it looks better 👌🏼

Does it just turn to gray after a dozen flips? By that i mean wont the grains just become so well mixed that you wont get any interesting gradients after a certain amount of resets?

No worries. Honestly, I found it was drastically different every time. It all depends how the bubbles trap the sand. Sometimes it would finish in 5 minutes, sometimes it would take 30.

It vary's depending on how fast the sand is falling, sometimes the bubbles trap them and they move a lot slower. I'd say about 20 minutes on average

There's supposed to be one small hole that you can use to a just the amount of bubbles or water. You'll need a hypodermic syringe like what's used for injecting medications and distilled water only if you need to add that. Try not to pierce the barrier too often or make rough movements or the silicone can tear.

If you watch the video you'll see as I unbox mine there is no syringe. So can't say I know what the deal is with that or what you've bought. Maybe yours has a way to use the syringe to put/take water into the unit through a small opening, just a guess?

My worry about this is that, the more you use it, the more the sand is going to mix together until it just becomes a uniform colour and no longer creates a layered landscape effect.

These are pretty neat, but not at all a new idea. I have one that is about 40 years old with blue and white sand and it doesn’t create “landscapes,” it creates ocean waves…blue being the water and white being the foam.

Hey Corey, I didn't change the color of the sand, that's just lighting! It takes roughly 15-30 minutes for the sand to fall, there really isn't a clear answer to that, but hope that helps!
