its always best not to be lazy about this. sometimes, the valve cover mark is slightly off in position to the cam mark. always remove the valve cover and check the position of the cam lobes and the timing marks on the chain. this is the best way to make sure the cams are at top dead center without any discrepancies. and another precaution. do not what so ever turn the cam sprocket back by itself. turn the cam by the cam sprocket bolt. the bolt is torqued higher then the amount of effort it takes to turn back the cam. if you try and turn the cam sprocket by itself you will have a high probability of breaking the key way on the cam sprocket and the cam sprocket will shift during the movement even with the bolt tightened. trust me on this, it is very fragile. do not! i repeat, do not turn the cam by the cam sprocket itself.

or just use a cardboard piece! put in between the belt and the Camshaftgear and turn the crank/camshaftgear and ur good to go :)

@@MostDopeGamer775 i was surprised myself! bought a cheap seat leon cupra r with 1.8t BAM Engine, he was starting and running normal until boost coming in. had only MIL Lamp on with P1340 faultcode. corrected the belt, then he was running w/o issue and no damage :))

I’ve just watched on KZitem a method where all you need to do is release the tension on the belt then place a 25mm long screwdriver bit inside the belt by the pulley you need to be different . then turn the engine , moving the bit trapped between the pulley and the belt . When the bit releases as the belt comes away from the pulley , the end result is the belt moved one notch one way or the other depending which way you needed . Massively easy and quick . Must watch . Search for “timing belt trick they dont teach you at school “ . Blown me away !
