@Ditch Green Such bourgeois niceties: shi...t* hole you mean? Always was, long before the EU, and will always be. It had, when I was young, a cultural unity-from the famine migrations and Jewish ones, and Kentish migrants of 19th century. Now its multicultural, which means it has no culture, is empty of an identity, and ailing from the absurd.

Back in 1994 I had to "get on my bike" and take a job in London. I bought a house next to a friend living at Canary Wharf at a time when the place was regarded as out in the sticks/white elephant so it was well below London prices. By 2003 I really couldn't take it any more. Whilst where we lived was fine with good neighbours it was becoming increasingly dangerous once you got north of the Canary Wharf district and into Tower Hamlets around Mile End, Wapping and Whitechapel. I'd had to fight off a gang one night when I took my dog to the vets, the vet himself had recently returned after an attack that had left him in an induced coma, my wife had had stones thrown at her, guys I knew had been threatened in Limehouse to get out of their area as they weren't Muslim, lone women were being mobbed and sexually assaulted etc etc. Work was also just so stressful it was making me ill with long hours, travel, endless meetings etc. I put my house on the market and resigned my job. The sense of freedom was amazing...like a ton weight off my shoulders. I moved to Brittany, an old granite farm house in nearly 2 acres, and haven't looked back. I have a well, produce my own firewood, fish, walk, travel. Now on my rare visits to the UK I cannot wait to get home. Last May I travelled back by plane and stayed two nights in Birmingham city centre where I was born and enjoyed my teenage years. Big mistake. Donald Trump has a word for it....I say no more 😨

Found a little stone cottage at end of road with 44acres not lived in for years. Lots of repairs but has been worth it. It's own spring water and trees everywhere in the Ozark Mountains, Arkansas, USA.. It's now been 29 yrs.later. Best thing I ever did for myself. Interesting because this eldest son inherits all is pretty old fashioned. I do wish he had given his brothers the opportunity to hold onto the cottage. I know how important history can be. My grandfather built two cottages by a lake in Ontario, Canada back in the late 40’s. My father passed them onto the seven kids. Basically, who ever wanted to go in on them could with the goal to keep them in the family. Three of my siblings opted to share costs and four of us opted out with only wishes of best of luck. While I opted out I can go and visit the cottages or stay the night anytime. My parents’ ashes are scattered there, the memories run deep of my grandfather fishing etc...I am so sorry you lost out on the opportunity.

hi Csucsu! hi Mossy! Im Zsolt from Budapest, living in Co.Galway and me as well going for sustainable living.I just got a a little little land for use, so I have an ambitious and long journey front of me. Would be amazing to see more videos from you guys. Change experience, tips and tricks. And maybe meet up and have a real conversation about land, garden, building and so on.... Im always happy to learn new things, listening people`s experiences or give a hand if someone needed. I learned permaculture and sustainable landscape design, Im a trained stone mason and all around builder and happy to help with tricks and tips or go and do a few days work. Best of luck for the winter guys!

Mossy Bottom you are so right about many people who are dissolutioned with the matrix we all live in. I for one long to live in a tranquil place where one's own energy is focussed on building, growing and creating. Wonderful an inspiring video!

Thanks for sharing your journey and dream. It IS very inspiring to see someone with what looks like similar feelings, ideas, values, hopes, putting words to the chaos in one's little brain. I completely resonate with the desilusion you talked about with "adult/occidental life", and am really looking forward to hearing more about what made you decide to change your path in life.

I'm new here and resonating with your motives and story. Good going! I guess all things are relative so when you got the caravan it must have felt like you had ascended poverty. Well, you're certainly not short of good homegrown food - very impressive as was the digs home next to your pretty cool looking shack for now. I really enjoyed the tour and talk. Take care. Mark

Thank you for sharing. I have only one criticism. The dog is a pack animal and should be inside with you at night. He needs more than warmth -- he needs companionship.

@scott warwick A dog's "job" is to exist and part of its instinct is being in a pack. The original comment was correct, not jealous.

The dog is a "sheep dog" and certainly 1,000's of farmers do not take their sheep dog (s) inside their farm houses at night. Many dogs, eg sheep dog, husky, etc. etc. are perfectly adept at sleeping out at night, including in their well insulated kennels.

Hi Mossy so glad to find your youtube channel. I have similar hopes and dreams and I pray one day me and my family will be living a sustainable life. We are living in Dublin and hope to move somewhere more remote. I am following for quite some time on youtube 'Living Traditions Homestead' and '1000s roots' they have lots of videos about everything you can think of regarding living a life off grid. All the best!

I did this in 2000 and enjoyed it so much, stayed until 2010. Irish people are great (watch out for paveys "be careful"). I left in 2010 because my bank account started to disappear, my fault, took to the Guinness after the wife left. Very damp & pretty expensive too. Good luck! I'm using only solar electric now, but it's much easier and cheaper to do the same here in France. Electric cars have massive e m f and have health warnings for pregnant women in some countries. Again, good luck, please keep us informed.

The people who built the cottage he bought must have been hunter gatherers. 😁 Nah but seriously I guess he just means it hasn't been farmed recently with industrial machinery.

Howya doing man. I've watched you video and love it! I've spent most the last hour or more reading the comments. Still not finished that. In what I have read is... You may have started something here!! I'm mean, by-way of getting help with your setup. So far I've read three people willing to help you with the cottage. One of which has experience with stone. If possible, it might be a good idea to accept the help, as no matter who we are, "No man is an Island." There is a lot of satisfaction in doing a job by yourself, but then again there is nothing wrong in accepting help. And that's what I mean when I say, I think you've started something. Maybe with the state of the country of Ireland people need to get back to helping each other. Just like it was back in the old days. I know you done the right thing here, just as much as you do. I'm trying to do something of the same, but I'm getting very near 60 years old and I find it hard to get the energy to do these thing, but I can still dream and try. I really do hope your future is bright and you get to do all the stuff you like to do and on your terms with nature. May God bless you and keep you strong in both mind and body for the completion of your journey. p.s. Permaculture when heating heading the cottage checkout Rocket Mass Heater. That's if you haven't already.

Murphys Law May God bless you too sir. My maternal and paternal uncles lived as farmers without plumbing and as bachelors. For generations the farms were worked by the entire family, up until they being oldest sons inherited. They were both bachelors but, because of technology farming by one is enough .This is common all over Sligo many bachelors farming. I agree wholeheartedly in accepting help. One can not learn efficiently what is learned over generations. Second , it's is your community that is an extended family in farming. Those relationships are generational and lasting. Good advice on warmth from the cold damp. My uncles lived social lives. Taking teas with neighbors, visiting friends farms, or waving to a neighbor as a tractor passed like clock work. And happy lives with exception to the cold damp . There are many empty cottages of farm tools etc that are acquired by larger neighboring farmers that need emptied, resources that would happily be offered rather than be left abandoned. Maybe young Daniel will go to a local game and meet his neighbors. May he have peace and happiness .My prayers to you both for blessings and grace.

Daniel, how do you do! I came in a side door to your series, now having sorted out your channel and am at the beginning of your narrative, going chronologically. I must apologize, because as i viewed random episodes, i got frustrated because you didn’t seem to introduce your sweet dog and i felt like he was ignored. And i gave you a hard time. Sooo glad to see here that you have introduced him up front, properly. So lovely. Lets start over. I should have recognized how organized you are, and started at the beginning, at the beginning😉. This is amazing! I’ve lived in County Donegal my whole life (North-West) and I run an Airbnb in my families old cottage in the summer. I think it’s about 150 years old but not sure. Beautiful place with a lovely garden. Great memories from when I was a child. We have a collie too (or ‘sheep dog’ as we usually call him) and he just loves where we live. His favorite thing to do is run around the fields getting muddy and helping my dad with the sheep.
