Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K. 491
Robert Casadesus, pianist
Orchestre Symphonique de Paris conducted by Eugène Bigot
Recorded December 20 and 21, 1937, in the Studio Albert, Paris, on Columbia 78-rpm matrices CLX 2024 through CLX 2030 (with the second movement being recorded first). In the USA, the set was issued early in 1939 as Columbia Masterworks Set No. 356 (records 69449-D through 69452-D); in 1940, when "drop" automatic sequence was introduced, the set was reissued as MM-356 (records 69993-D through 69996-D), and the set received a Steinweiss cover design c. 1945. The Concerto takes seven sides; the filler is Casadesus' solo performance of Mozart's Rondo in D, K. 485, which I have uploaded separately.
Mozart's C Minor Concerto has three movements:
1. Allegro (cadenza, by Camille Saint-Saëns, at 10:41)
2. Larghetto (at 12:58)
3. Allegretto (at 21:10)
Robert Casadesus became famous for his interpretations of Mozart's piano concerti; this was his first recording of any of them.
