Umwerfend. VIELEN DANK.

Such mastery and technical prowess so characteristic of Arrau. His soul lives on through his profound interpretations.

Ohne Trauer. Schlüssig. Wunderschön.

Perhaps only Arrau! And It is incredible that, of all the technical qualities and musical knowledge that this great artist brought to his life-long playing endeavors, he is one of the very few, if not the only one, that brought total character to his playing. In his artistry, he always knew how to impart and reflect that quality, from his heart through his fingers, to his audience. It was more than just learning, memorizing and interpreting the work of a composer, any composer. To Arrau, it was more like a labor of becoming the composer, omitting his own ego, his vanity, and thus showing us the actual written work and the heart of the composer. My modest opinion.

Couldn't agree more! Arrau puts the music before himself, always.

Vlad Tepes Just like in his Beethoven sonatas Arrau played the Mozart sonatas with EVERY repetition. Nearly no other pianist have done that.

@@ulfwernernielsen6708 The tempo is a bit slower also, as usually happens with Arrau. For me one of the best recordings of this sonata. I always learn something new of the piece hearing Arrau. He is a true master.

@@Guillermopianista I think it would be very interesting for you listening to a live performance by Arrau of this sonata from 1956 or so. There are two different versions of the second part of the second movement, the autograph and the first printing. In the autograph it is just a repetition of the first part but with the second theme in B flat . The other version is full of ornaments as you hear in this recording. In the live performance Arrau played the other version. The live performance is also here on You tube. I wish you a great pleasure.
