this is probably my favorite version of this concerto. the orchestra played with such expression and they really knew how to match up with Frank, who imo has the best interpretation of this piece, even rivaling Hilary Hahn
Vielen danke, Mr Zimmermann! You are still as talented as before!

Still my favorite version of this concerto on KZitem. Perfect clarity, tone, rhythm, and a certain eccentricity that feels natural and joyous rather than forced and awkward like with so many HIP recordings.

Zimmerman used a great deal of vibrato but it didn’t affect the elegance of the piece. He is the prince of the vibrato! Loved it!

He's listened to a lot of Grumiaux :) I think now he even plays on Arthur's old fiddle.

An enjoyable performance. I like Mr. Zimmermann's powerful touch (somehow magnified by his vibrato and the way he plays the first chord and its iterations), and late Maestro Haitink's reaction before starting the third movement. Thanks a lot for this lovely upload.
