Hi Raoul! Its VERY fair to compare because the old(and even updated)AMT crap still asks for the same money as Revell is doing!🤣And they pushed out the 007 and MAch 1 because they wanted to get a piece of the money because the Revell Kit was everybody was talking about at that time!

It's a no brainer, here in the UK (i'm in Scotland), you'd pay at least £35 for the AMT kit, i've just bought the Revell (Europe) 71 Boss Mustang for £34 and it looks superb, i remember building the AMT 71 back in the 90's and wasn't impressed even back then, the Revell kit (apart from slight body warpage) is superb, easily as good as the 68 Charger, these days i take about six weeks to build a kit, i'm not going to spend that time on a kit i don't think is worth it, "round 2" just churning out badly worn tooling of old, basic kits, AMT need to up their game but i don't think they will.

Yes, it is tough. Round2 Has been a better owner than RC2 was. Even though they have some really worn tooling. They have been fixing kits a little here and there. Even this 71 Mach 1 has a new nose and wheels. It is a more accurate front compared to what was in the older Boss 351 kit they inherited. Granted it's hard to say if the money they spent to fix it paid off. But I often wondered if all these and studdle changes have paved the way for the more aggressive retooling that they have done recently!

@@TheMuscleCarModeler Lets hope that RC2 starts repopping more really old kits with modernized toolings like the Coronet or the Olds!Or really new kits like the new Charger and Bronco! But as we all know in Europe and Asia they have to fix the prices here!but the worst example is JR Salvino kits here in EU!You have to pay a whopping 65 Euro without p+p for a NASCAR kit like the Camaro or the Camry!

Nice overview of these kits. Interesting that the AMT 71 and 007 kits were based on the MPC tooling. That makes sense because, of the two, MPC's kit was superior. AMT's original tooling made it's last appearance as the Warren Tope Trans Am race car in around 2014. Revell really hit a home run with their release. Like you said, the way the parts are grouped on the sprues hints at several different versions to come. In addition to the Bond version shown, there will be a version of the original 73 Eleanor from the first "Gone in 60 Seconds" movie. From what I've seen, this will likely be a 2 in 1 which will also build a stock 73 Mach I. It also appears that we'll be getting a 71 429 Cobra Jet Mach I sometime in the future.

This mpc was my first glue kit as a beginner modeler n it dam near ended my interest in building. I know it's not fair considering the age but I really wish round 2 would be a little more realistic as to what the builder is getting as far as age of molds. Call them classics call them advanced call them vintage call them whatever let's a parent or teenage beginner know that this kit is over 40 years old and literally been used hundreds of thousands of times. N I get the arguments from all the old school builders like better this than nothing and know what ur buying but as a beginner you don't know anything other than what is on the box. I learned alot through this build which I guess is the point but there is a fine line between testing skills and so frustrated you consider just putting it back in the box and finding another hobby before you even get into how awesome this hobby really is. Thanks for the video LOVE the history of these kits!

It seems like the AMT and MPC versions leave a lot to be desired. Just looking at the AMT and MPC kits, it looks like the yellow one is the better kit to build. The Revell kit seems to really go above and beyond the AMT and MPC versions, but the Revell is a modern kit using modern technology in its design. I really don’t like this generation of Mustang, but I think I want to get the Revell kit. Thanks for sharing.

The MPC 71 Chevelle vanished and the AMT became the 72 that has been rereleased many times but not in the last 10 years. Camaro was a different story as both tools were retooled into other versions and still live on. Although the 67 Barracuda was an AMT kit and retooled into a 68 Barracuda but was an MPC kit after that but same tooling.

I own a real 72 Mach1 and those vents in the hood and the lack of a Cleveland engine much less a Boss one is why this kit is TERRIBLY inaccurate including the wrong exhaust and front bumper. R2 knew they would get hammered of they “redid” the MPC Boss kit so they updated it back to the 72 molds with a lot of irrelevant parts from previous 69-73 kits. Buy the REVELL kits.

Interesting back story, I had no idea the kit makers passed off parts from other model years on hobbyists and still called it a stock kit for the labeled model year on box! Could you do a quick dry fit, to show us if the wheels do/don't align to the wheel openings on the yellow AMT kit? (maybe AMT made a corresponding adjustment while relocating the 3 holes) Hobby Lobby has the yellow kit right now, and I'm not finding the Revell kit at my local independent hobby store at the moment. (it appears Revell has a distribution issue in the US) I wouldn't mind a practice run using the AMT kit, using a different color combo I like, but I don't even want to start one if the wheels won't line up.

So...where does (or does it?) the AMT 1973 Warren Tope Road Racing Mustang fit into this mix? I have a R2 2014 release in the pile (built an original back in the mid-70's) and it seems to share similarities, but is distinctly different than the ones you're showing here. Example, it only has the small block engine, but the chrome tree has the Boss 429 valve covers, the ribbed injection manifold and all eight injection trumpets. The roll cage is COMPLETELY different trom the Nascar-looking cage (even partial) you show in your kits. The chassis in my repop is clearly different, it doesn't have the three axle holes. Thanks...great video!

That tool is different from the MPC kit I featured here. I have never had one but the AMT 73 kit started out as a 71 issue and has always been a race car. It could not be built stock. Both AMT and MPC were separate company’s until ERTL bought them in the 80’s combining them into one company. Both kits get confused now as some of the 73 kits were issued with box art that made it look like a stock version but it is not. Not to mention that the MPC kit was also a 73 version at one time then backdated some to a 71. That is why it has some 73 style parts in it but they are MPC, not AMT.

@@TheMuscleCarModeler I'm not sure how much cross-work there was in the early 70's, but MPC and AMT shared a VERY close working relationship from the start up of MPC in the early 60's..
