Very informative video. I am amazed that someone at Akai thinks that these plugins are worth $ 150 each...

But you can do all of this in standalone you are missing the point. What beat machine has this type of capabilities these plugins work in standalone akai know what they are doing in another 6 months they will come out with another set of plugins then we will be paying a 1000 dollars for their flagship plugins you can't even use most of NI komplete instruments in maschine.

@@brandonsmith2594 but the plugins are not that great, most are sample based and an fm synth plugin in 2022 is not worth 150 on any platform

@@brandonsmith2594 When looking in the groovebox / beatmachine category, for example the Roland MC-707 or even the MC-101 have at least comparable, if not better rhodes/whurli sounds and a much wider palette of instruments. Having the choice of spending $ 500 on a few at most average sounding plug-ins, I'd rather spend the same $ 500 on the Roland MC-101 in order to connect it to the MPC as an external sound module. The idea of MPC plugins is great, but the quality is definitely not up to the current price.

Nice overview!! Good idea on sampling your Rhodes, I did mine (1977 88 suitcase) for the MPC Live, 4 velocity layers, and got a couple others multisampled electric piano samples from my pianos (Wurly 200a, Rhodes 1980 MK2, Pianet, CP60m and a Clavinet D6) that I plan to make too! Would be willing to share, better to have more than less :) For the Mk1 and Mk2 sound, in my experience of owning and adjusting severals early and later Rhodes, you can make a post 74 Mk1 sounds like a Mk2 (and vice versa), the big differences are in the pre 74, because of mechanical changes in the construction of the piano!

I wish they were more, but most of the plugins are multi-sampled keygroups in a new wrapper bundled with FX. The EP plugin sounds like 4 velocity layers for key-on and 4 velocity layers for key-off. The key-on layers seem like they're using great looping and envelope techniques to save space.

Can't you save the loaded projects as Keys projects, so they load in the newer format? Try saving as a re-named file (don't overwrite the old file), as xxx.keys or something and see if when loading that, it still crashes?

Good vid Jorb. Decent upgrade for me, not had any crashes or issues so far. Unlikely I'll invest in the plug ins unless they are best in class, don't grudge Akai doing it really, but they do seem pricey. btw the MIDI monitor has always been there, same style buttons on the bar at the top of the main menu, helped me quickly solve many a 'what the heck's going on here?' moment.

Hi. Ta for doing that. Well done. My mpc one hasn’t crashed yet. Also, for me the tuner will be very useful. Not just for when I record guitar and bass. But when I’m sampling Eurorack or any other analogue synth, it will be nice to tune on the way into the sampler. The new FM plug in I might buy as I’ve been making some cool patches with it. Even though the interface is nothing like any other fm synth, it can sound cool and lots of modulation options.

Jorbenowski, I think the MPC Keys would be detrimental to your work flow. See how you use 1 hand on the MPC? Well on the keys the layout is spread too far, I had a SLMK3 and as a sequencer it was horrible. Not because it wasn't good at sequencing, but the attention or my focus was now spanned over an excessively wider area than I was used to. My peripheral vision was being exerted more for what my focus should have been if this makes any sense? My ergonomics was now spanned over a larger work area than it should have been. I hated it. This is all in context though, my current workspace is around 1.5 meters wide and as I count, has 8 synths, 3 rows, 2 under desk trays with other gear, then a rack with Interface/extras. I try to pack as much gear in limited space as possible, it's taken me years to get right and I still have some residual gear that is not being used. Sequencers should be of a size that can be used with 1 hand if needed, the MPC Keys seems to have the foot print spread too wide imo. If you have never touched an Akai Force, check one out, for sequencing, they're sublime.

No offense, but your MPC 1K vids are more fun to watch LOL. I've come to the conclusion, that MPC 1K weaknesses might be addressed by other "team -member" features, Whether modular or vintage board, or adjusting my plan. Limits often channel expression to greater concentration. Violin vs Piano. Hence the tiny no touch MPC 1k screen means I'm not in a phone like touch relationship with virutal switches. Something to be a said for a real switch. MOXF vs MODX. Thanks for all the work!

Jorb, someone has made a video of your channel, complaining you only make videos as you're worried about your subscriber base. This is the same content creator who had been attacking another content creator because they smoke weed. I won't mention John's name, but on his own Wix, he posted his bio where he in 84 was fired from his job for going to work stoned. See the irony here? He is so insecure of what others do, he tries to put them down when he himself is no better, or if anything a worse example of what he is trying to preach. I know you don't care, most don't either, just that he made a 9-minute video complaining about what you should be doing, rather than concentrating on his own dismal channel that has nothing to offer than negativity or maybe some music that is the same cookie cutter music he has been doing for years. He offers nothing to his audience, where in comparison, your channel has a really cool vibe with a really relaxed approach to how things work with your work flow. I love how you do things, that mic is your *hook* , it is 100% you. You should make a mic T shirt for merch, Loopop has hands, you have mic. This aside, what you speak of has droves of info even for the layman, I can even keep up lol. Thanks for doing what you do, your home is YT and you have a ton of people that care. xD
