Cant agree there man, I think Paul's guitars and vocals are way better. I do like Kotzen, but i see as him as a replacement to the original sound. Similiar to what the new drummer has tried to replicate on Pats parts but the guy just cant play like Pat. Just my opinion man! I thought it was odd during the credits they said Paul was playing! Kotzen is a beast. Adding a lot of his own stuff and groove, but with Gilbert mr.Big sounds much more natural as a band. The same i felt when Kotzen played with Poison. Kotzen should be solo artist or a part of band which was build upon his musical vision like the Winery Dogs for example, and then Kotzen can freely let his amazing talent to be present without any boundaries that he has while playing other guitarists parts and writing songs which has to fit someone else vision.

@@aryantiatun5128 There was a huge personality clash between Sheehan and Martin from the beginning. Further tensions developed, including physical altercations, which were partially responsible for Paul's departure in 1997. Disagreements about many things, including management and record company issues came to a head in the early 2000s, leading to Sheehan being fired from the band in 2001. He was asked to return when Japanese promoters threatened to cancel the band's upcoming tour if he was not present. He agreed, on condition that it was a farewell tour and the band permanently broke up. For a while it seemed impossible that a reunion would ever happen; indeed, Sheehan vowed to never work with Martin again. Thankfully this turned out not to be the case.

There's room for both steak AND hamburger in my diner... Mr. Big has always been about the song first, regardless of some of the more "shred" leanings on earlier recordings. I'm a huge DT & MB fan myself & I don't get your comparison; they're different bands & we should let them be such. DT is an amalgamation of Floyd, Metallica, Journey, CSNY, & any number of other bands, and as much as I like them, they're not reinventing the wheel. And neither is MB. They're just playing catchy tunes with solid musicianship & should be celebrated for it.

@Freek Dvl - Sorry pal your latest comment (below) just shows how your musical taste and comprehenstion level is so low when you say.. Dream Theatre's music is not more progressive than Mr Big. huh huh. First you need to go and learn what prog rock is and then make such statement. Do not take it personally... as you have already done so far.... just go and explore... you might learn something.... just a friendly advice... in this case you would stop embarrasing yourself by such comments. :)
@maci0ta382

+Alex Martinson I think you are just being a little stupid, with all due respect. How can you compare two bands from almost opposite genres like Mr. Big and Dream Theater? Of course Dream Theater's music has an elevated technical complexity when compared to Mr. Big. And this is because Dream Theater is PROGRESSIVE METAL. And not PROGRESSIVE ROCK, as you stated. Mr. Big is not even prog rock, they are just hard rock. And guess what? Hard rock is a genre meant to be easily digested. And Mr. Big does a fantastic job exploring technical complexity within the boundaries of their genre. I do comprehend you have a personal preference for technical/theorical complexity, but your personal preference is not enough to disqualify the other tons of musical genres out there. "As a musician", you should know that each genre has its different attributes and there is no such thing as an "Aryan Race" in music. By saying that progressive metal rules the world, you basically set fire to jazz, blues, flamenco, bossa nova, country and many other fantastic styles out there. And wanna know what? Dream Theater are not even the best at what they do. Are they good? Yes. Are they fantastic? Yes. But go listen to something like Necrophagist. They literally make Dream Theater sound like One Direction in terms of technical complexity.
@eshgholah

+Cosmo Genesis well you are right when it comes to the term Prog Rock and Prog metal. but these two are being used interchangeably nowadays. I think you are not picking in this case. By the way you have just jumped in the middle of a conversation and have not seen the previous comments and I cannot blame you for that. Maybe it was a little bit of rush of blood to your head for finding an opportunity to express yourself and I can understand that too. You need to go back and read the previous comments.

As a musician myself I respect Dream Theatre who really invent new musical patterns which involves both passion and complexity and hard work. These guys in my opinion are not giving it all. Their music sounds ordinary and hollow. But it is only my opinion. Do not get edgy about it. Just try to tolerate other people's opinion. If you like them I respect that.
