I met this band in a quiet little corner of a an airport waiting area in Washington DC's Dullus Airport in 1991. They signed my guitar that I has with me. Each member was sitting next to each other down the line of seats with the manager sitting at the end. They were down to earth, I was 19, and I was on cloud 9 that day.

Mr. Big is a bit like Extreme...in that they have a couple of very radio-friendly songs...and that's what people expect from the rest of their catalog...only to be very surprised when they unleash something...else. Though, in both cases, there is the charismatic singer...the shredding guitarist...the wild drummer...and the bassist. Though, in Mr Big's case, he's a bit more well-known. For Mr. Big, check out "Addicted To The Rush" for another side of them...or, check out "Just Take My Heart" for more of their radio-friendly catalog. And for Extreme, check out the radio-friendly "More Than Words'" and/or "Hole Hearted"...and then check out "Get the Funk Out" or "Decadence Dance" for their other side.

I was the drummer in a band that got nowhere except in the garage. However, I knew how to play the guitar and piano. I learned this song on my own and one night sang it for my girlfriend. I never took credit for writing the song but I failed to tell her it was a song I did not write. She only listened to country and so she had never heard it. Years later I ran into her and we talked for a few minutes and she mentioned she was impressed that I got one of my songs recorded by another artist. None of my songs (I have a solo CD I made years ago) have ever been picked up by an artist so I asked her what was she talking about. She thought I had written this song and Mr. Big had picked it up. She told friends that was the case. It broke my heart to tell her but she laughed it off. Anytime I hear this song, memories flood back to me. Thanks for reacting.

Mr Big was basically a band that was kind of a super group. The singer Eric Martin had a band called The Eric Martin Band, they had put out an album or two, he had a song in the 80s movie Iron Eagle. He later was asked to join Mr Big. The bass player Billy Sheehan played in a band called Tallas and later played with David Lee Roth the former lead singer for Van Halen and guitarist Steve Vai. The guitarist for Me Big Paul Gilbert played in a band called Racer X, who’s drummer now played for Judas Priest. The drummer for Mr Big played with Robert Plant the former lead singer for Led Zepplin. Mr Big had a lot of hit songs… their first hit was an AMAZING song called “Addicted to that Rush”… also “Wind Me Up.” From their first self titled album. Their 2nd album called “Lean Into it”… had the hit song “Green Tinted Sixties Mind”, “Just take my Heart” and this song you just reacted to. They are still around and are MASSIVELY FAMOUS in Japan. In fact they play the same stadium bands like Baby Metal perform in when they are in Japan.

Great reaction Biss! Mr Big is like the Avengers of late 80s rock musicians. I believe they were all instructors at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and decided to form a band while there. Paul Gilbert (guitar) and Billy Sheehan (bass) are legendary! Pat Torpey (drums) played with a number of great artists and then Eric Martin topping it off with his caramel classic rock vocals. This was their most popular ballad but they have a lot of other great music worth checking out.

Mr. Big is a hard rock band formed in the late 80's, and this was their biggest single back in 1991... They had another hit in 1993 - a cover of Cat Stevens' "Wild world". By all accounts, Mr. Big debuted their first album in 1989... and they had TOP QUALITY musicians to take them to the top: Billy Sheehan (bass) who had played w/ David Lee Roth (ex Van Halen singer)... a truly virtuoso bassist, who currently also plays in bands like The Winery Dogs...Sons of Apollo. Paul Gilbert (guitar) who played w/ speed metal band Racer X w/ Scott Travis (drums) of Judas Priest. Pat Torpey (drums) who was just an amazing percussionist and played in the band Impellitteri ... Sadly, he passed away in 2018 from Parkinson's disease (R.I.P.)... Mr. Big recently announced that they would continue w/ new drummer Nick D'Virgilio. Eric Martin (vocals) is a great singer and performer - the voice of Mr. Big. However, after 'To be with you' was such a huge hit, later Mr. Big records went in a more pop-rock direction. They lost their mainstream popularity in the 90's grunge era. Some of the more uptempo Mr. Big songs - 'Addicted to that rush'... 'Green tinted sixties mind'... 'Never say never'... 'Take cover'... 'Had enough'... 🔥🔥

Paul Gilbert (guitar) and Billy Sheehan (bass) are incredible instrumentalists. Idols. Although, in this song, this is not obvious. But good musicians know, when to get virtuous, and when it is not needed. Here, just the sweetness did the trick. This song just had the potential for a radio hit, and so it became a huge success. Well, a great metal band, that explicitly did a ballad that was for the female audience, obviously, and it worked out for them. 🙂

Mr Big were one of the 80s "supergroups" that started cropping up in the late 80s/early 90s alongside the likes of Damn Yankees and Contraband. Mr Big though had the most staying power. Basically the band singer Eric Martin was a solo artist, bassist Billy Sheehan was known for Talas and David Lee Roth, guitarist Paul Gilbert was from Racer X & drummer Pat Torpey wasn't such a well known name but had played for well known artists as either a session or touring musician. This song was a massive hit for them as it went to #1 is most countries. Even those like the UK where it didn't hit #1 it still hit #3 so was a massive success. 1991 really was the last big year for the 80s hair metal style bands getting big success, and bands like Mr Big and Extreme just got their big acoustic ballads out at exactly the right time before grunge laid waste to the 80s rock landscape.

That is a great song to sing. Especially for my vocal style. Raspy and deeper with high inflections. Kind of a blend between this singer Eric Martin and Tesla's Jeff Keith. Mr. Big was one of many great "supergroups" that appeared on the scene in the late 80's to early 90's. The most famous members were guitarist Paul Gilbert and bassist Billy Sheehan. Vocalist Eric Martin tells the story that he was literally about to commit suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge when he got the call to join this band. Drummer Pat Torpley (RIP) completed the line-up. This was by far their most popular song, but they have many other great tunes...my personal favorite is the song "Had Enough," and the song "Addicted to that Rush" is also very popular. Another similar group that formed at essentially the same time and released its debut album within weeks of Mr. Big is the group Badlands. Both bands played what they described as 70's influenced rock music. You should definitely consider checking out Badlands as well. Two other supergroups from the same era are Bad English and the Damn Yankees...both are well worth looking into. God bless!!

Hi there Biss, A big hit on MTV back in the day, a fantastic medley with sweet harmonies, Eric Martin's raspy vocals carry the long notes so nicely & can power it up with the best of them. Coming off their lean into it album as hair metal was in it's twilight,a song more softer then what their known for, like a happy accident written by Eric while growing up when he got together with David Grahame a bass player who was into the Beatles including a play. So he said let's do it like give peace a chance so the demo was piano, acoustic guitar, a drumbeat bass sounding like cat stevens wild word which they also covered & adding the awesome solo by Paul Gilbert. They were gonna be dropped by Atlantic records but Herbie there manager ( journey & santana) convinced to put it out. There used to be a format on the radio ' smash or trash' where a record was played randomly at night & became popular. The song's all about unrequited love ,a poetic girl Patricia who helped write songs with Eric , a shoulder to cry on but misunderstood that for love , the lyric" waited on a line of blues & greens" was about being given a mood ring & all the attention she was having & how everyone loved her but broke her heart. It was while they were in Daytona beach at finkys club playing pinball in the morning, were freaked out & amazed on hearing on mtv that it was number 1, a big champagne celebration for everyone with girls flocking more to their concerts.on there 9th album 'defying gravity' they roasted the song on '1992' during the chorus. Here's some more worth checking out: daddy.brother.lover, little boy/ addicted to the rush/ green tinted 60's/ take cover/30 days in the hole/road to ruin & defying gravity. RIP 🙏 Pat More worth looking for: Extreme's "more than words" / winger " heading for a heartbreak", firehouse " when I look in your eyes" , Warrant "heaven" , Poison " every rose has it's thorn" , Europe " carrie" , Chicago " hard to say I'm sorry ( there's also a longer version) Whitesnake "is this love"( unplugged) & Arron Neville & Linda Ronstadt " don't know much" With its simple chords it's a easy to pick up on your guitar go to tic tock's Mr bigote music clip tutorial. They could be back on tour in the summer. Thanks for everything, take care Bisscute, 🤗💗✌️ kzitem.info/news/bejne/tXiQ0qSupoycdoo kzitem.info/news/bejne/pnyc1GuprX-TpJg

So we go to the Beck joke. That year they probably lost out, with multiple multi instrumental guys, to someone who had 19 producers and repeated the same 7 words. Beck reference? He plays like 17. Produces his own stuff. One year he lost to Beyonce, IMS, YELLING "WHO RULES THE WORLD?! GIRLS!" for 4 minutes. Hers has almost 20 producers and 6 people to write the songs on that album.

Good tune! I completely remember this song and video, but can't say I know all that much about Mr. Big, though I think they had some good songs. I remember they did a cover of "Wild World", but that song has been covered by so many people, and I'd suggest just checking out the original by Cat Stevens. That's actually maybe my favorite song of his. Cat Stevens is kind of an interesting chatacter. He's a British singer/songwriter who came out of the late 60s and 70s folk pop, coffee house scene, but then in like the late 70s he became muslim, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, and walked away from his career as a singer. As I've gotten older I've come to appreciate his music more. He wrote some really beautiful songs. You should definitely check some of them out, and "Wild World" is a great place to start. Actually, this is sort of a tangent, but for your other channel you should think about checking out the movie "Pirate Radio" (US Title) or "The Boat That Rocked" (UK Title) from Richard Curtis, who is kind of a lengendary British comedy writer, who later started also directing his own movies. He's got a lot of movies I really love, but this one is a real fun one that takes place in the rock n roll scene in the 60s, and has a lot of great music from that era, if you're into that.

I've always loved this song; was a late teen when it came out. Though they didn't have many hits, this song is amazing.

The guy who played the solo You liked is Paul Gilbert the guitarisHe teaches lessons Online. For beginners and up.He's a very nice guy. He's really patient with his students. And I've never heard. Of swear on KZitem. That's good pr. I think you know what that means. Maybe when you're not doing your channel on line and then there's clips of him ripping on the guitar. He's a great guitar player thanks for respodinging to one of my coments may God keep you happy😊❤

Woah, forgot this band existed. It's all coming back to me now. What a head trip.
