Something I find interesting about the first Incredibles movie is where Mr Incredible and Frozone are undercover, saving people from a fire and accidentally ending up in a jewellery store. It may be well known, it may be missed, but I just wanted to mention it. When Mirage is following them and watches them work, she changes who the target is. Which means that originally, Frozone was going to be the one recruited and sent to the island.

Also, I just realized, in any other super movie, that plane scene would've been Violets "breakthrough moment" where she just suddenly manages to do something she's never done before. Instead the realism of her not being able to magically do it while she's panicking is top tier
@raymondfisheriii791
10 ай бұрын
Which is what makes her being able to fight along with the family in the forest and then against the Omni droid feel more earned. She had a failure that motivated her to actually be able to defend who she cared for when it mattered, because the last time she couldn’t, she almost died, and she disappointed her mom. So when she actually gets praised by her mom at the end for her contributions in the fight, it makes her genuinely feel more confident. This movie actually does a really good job at subtle character development with personal stakes if you take a moment to dive deeper into each of them. Heck, even Jack Jack, the goddamned baby, has multiple levels of nuance and personality set in him. It’s fucking nuts how hard they went on the Incredibles

I also like how Helen talks to Violet after they get to land. Apologizing for yelling at her, for asking so much so soon, and explaining it wasn't her fault that she couldn't do it. Because its realistic that the child would feel like an extreme disappointment in that moment and a mother would see that. The mother would also realize it was extremely unfair of her to ask that given she had told her all her life not to use her powers, so of course Vi hadn't have the practice or experience to do a field that big, she had always been told not to use her powers. Now her mom had suddenly demanded her to use them and she had frozen and panicked. It was very touching for Helen to accept that it was her fault not Vis and to assure violet of that. And to encourage her to do more because she had faith in her.

What I loved about the cut content of the incredibles where these semi improvised interwviews for a few heroes that died to either a cape related accident or an omnitron, where you get facets of characters like Ultraman who is an incredible hero but he‘s a Mysoginist and arrogant, or gazerbeam, the guy who died in Syndromes cave and gave mr. Incredible the password for the omnitron project files, who turns out to be this super humble guy who talks about the struggle of his powers „you usually don’t create deadly lasers every time you get a little excited“. They even show autistic and homosexual representation, showing us literally that *anyone* can be a hero.

15:00 from cap's perspective the deaths are caused by who-is-that-guy, i'm told it's crossbones but were we supposed to keep track of that? Anyway, the guy who set off the bomb in a crowded market, and not his people who tried to remove that explosion to a safe distance and failed. It is a trolley problem and the correct answer is to ignore it as much as possible if you want to oppose supervillains at all.
@ZombieWilfred

Absolutely right, I came to the comments to say the same. This is why Cap dismisses the argument that because some people were killed, they're responsible and should agree to the accords. It's because it is an incredibly weak argument. I feel like it's strange for Karl to overlook this because he's usually so good at pointing out the obvious oversights people have made in their arguments... Crossbones (not gonna lie, I don't hate this representation of him, he's is basically a mercenary who will use different gadgets and weapons in the comics, and I think Frank Grillo is a great casting choice to play him. My only real problem with it is he's a long-standing villain in the comics, and they show him in his first appearance in the mask and kill him off just for the intro of this movie 😢) and his crew are literal terrorists stealing a biological weapon, if I remember right, that could be used to threaten or kill millions and if it weren't for the superheroes' intervention they would've absolutely gotten away with the weapon. They completely overwhelmed the security measures that were in place. Crossbones bears sole responsibility for setting off the explosive (during the commission of a potentially vastly more deadly crime) and it would've killed far more civilians if it had just gone off in the crowded market without Scarlet Witch's intervention. Then a bunch of governments tried to restrict them, instead of the proper response, which would be "thank you for doing your best and saving a lot of innocent lives..." I can understand the idea behind there needing to be checks and balances to the supererheroes, but the specific way they did it in the movie was really dumb to me (and Karl points out it is not fine as well in that as in the Incredibles.) I'm team Cap all the way in that case...

Honestly on the note of how Syndrome argued about how he earned his powers while Bob didn't, but then just used them for his own gain, I still wanna see an Incredibles 3 where we flip it's tropes of "the Supers always do good". (Earnestly been a rough idea in my head for years). Gimme a story where the Incredibles family ends up meeting the universe's equivalent of Homelander: a very powerful superhero who puts on a good face for the world but secretly is probably the villain. Bob and crew could essentially wind up becoming friends with a seemling well-off and wholesome family of Supers that eventually turn out to be strongarming laws and breaking morals behind the scenes for their own gains. Could also supplement the twist with a red herring sort of false villain: some "tech criminal" type who has just been trying to take "Not Homelander" down without getting caught and killed. Might be predictable, sure, but it could explore a lot of interesting ideas if done with the same level of care that the first movie had.

Sorta, it was acknowledged that it was an accident and I don't think Wakanda was pressing for her arrest as it was an accident and overall the right decision. If she had kept the bomb on the ground where it started, it would have gone off killing hundreds in that crowded Bazar. When she put it into the air it only killed about a dozen to 15 people. Wakanda we see are pragmatic. This was not an attack on Wakanda by Wanda and was not intentional so I doubt they would have been too angry about it. Upset yes, but not angry at her for it. Also she is very much teen coded in the movies even though she is in her mid 20s, she is spoken to like a child by everyone. Tony put her on house arrest, or as she put it "You locked me in my room".

The MCU Civil War discussion is one really interesting to me, because I can see both Tony's and Steve's position. Tony doesn't trust himself to do the right thing and Steve doesn't trust the government to do the right thing, but none of them are talking about accountability. Reminds me of JLU when Luthor hacks into the league's tower and shoots cadmos. The league knows they didn't do it, they could look for who actually did it and beat their ass. But they chose to do the right thing and be responsible and give themselves in until everything is cleared out. They took accountability. Except Batman because he's rich.

I disagree with the lawsuits against supers of the Incredibles just like I disagree with some of the Sokovia Accords (Not all of it, but some) Did Wanda's actions lead to deaths of civilians in that building? Partially, yes, she attempted to throw the explosion away but accidentally put it into that building. However, that was a suicide vest on a terrorist that was about to go off in a crowd on ground level, which would likely (considering the explosion we saw against the building) have levelled that market they were in. That begs the question: Is she responsible for somebody else's bomb? Either way people were going to die, but did her actions make things worse? She didn't detonate the bomb, she tried to move it. If she's responsible for that explosion killing people, then that means cops are responsible for every crime a criminal commits, soldiers are responsible for their enemies munitions hitting their comrades, etc. Moving to the Incredibles, this became a thing of supers being sued for stopping people from being killed. If Mr Incredible hadn't stopped that train, which yes, people were injured on, then they would have instead been killed in the crash. Did the villain, Bomb Voyage, face any responsibility for that? No, Mr Incredible was sued instead, and the government had to pay the bill. If the train had crashed, they'd have called him worthless as a hero because he didn't save those people, but if he stopped the train, they'd sue him for allowing them to get hurt. In the context of the movie, that means that no matter what actions he takes, he's going to face punishment from society. Supers need checks and balances, just like any strong force does, but putting all the blame on them either way, or forcing them to listen to a potentially biased committee about when and where they can stop threats to the public, isn't a good answer to the issue. Instead of helping ensure safety, you've tied their hands and prevented them from stepping in to stop a threat until you read some reports and think on it for a few days.

Okay I know the thought process behinf karl saying this but its an awesome Spider-Man fact that is very rarely brought up. Spider-Man would get worse if he trained. His web swinging is the only exception (good on you saying the only thing we actually could see him training on!) Because his spider sense is litterally the best in marvel comics (as 616 Spider-Man has an alternate timeline shown through the web itself that shows if he hunted and killed the Kravenoff fanily he would both be insanley powerful, and be the destroyer of the web of life and destiny including his spider sense. He also by leaening to he a hero once more makws a new web of life and destiny and becomes the strongest Madam web in comics with him having all his powers suped up and despite going blind in a fight wirh Spider-Girl has seemingly omncient sight while retaining the spider sense.) So he will always swing where theres the least amount of danger at the highest speed he can safely do so, and the traininf requirments for him would be insane as his healing factor and stamina are so high that he'd likely need to build specialized equipment, but in gaining mass he will lose speed, and since he can already lift over 100 tons ( it has been shown on a mimimum of 3 occasion in cannon 616 and its implied to be nearing his limit) while moving at a combat speed high enough that he can move faster than the average human will be able to react leavinf after images of himself, and losing any of that speed would also mess with his "Way of The Spider" fighting style which shang chi taught him prinairly to use his speed for. Bro is kinda crazy

I found Incredible 2 to be pretty average for a movie (I still say the Brother should have been the villain, creating a villain and putting people in danger explicitly so the heroes could gain fame and be brought back) however one thing I love is the interrogation t the beginning. Did you stop the underminer? No Did you stop the an being robbed? No All you did was make things worse. edit: One other thing I like that I feel needs attention is the physics. Mr Incredible is STRONG, he is a beast of a man but he routinuely gets pushed back by things weaker than him. It doesn't matter how strong you are, you can be superman levels of strength but if you weigh like a person then when a train hits you, you go flying. You see it especially when he tries to stop the train, he's not injured, he's not too weak he just cant get enough grip cuse he is human and weighs like a human. This desn't happen in most other Superhero media. Hancock gets hit by a train and doesn't budge. Superman gets ht by someone with super strength and doesn't budge at all.

From Marvel's Wiki on his Personality: "Captain America is traditionally seen as one of the greatest heroes in the universe. He is a righteous and brave man who always wanted to see the good in people. From even before his origins as a super hero, Steve has always devoted himself to the protection of the weak and the defense of freedom and justice. In spite of his virtues, however, Cap has been plagued by his status as man out of time. Remembering his days as a soldier in World War II, Cap worried that his idealism might be considered outdated in the modern world. Furthermore, seeing how idealized his legacy has become throughout the years, Cap sometimes believed that he might not be able to fulfill the image the world had of him. Regardless, Cap is still seen as the pinnacle of heroism and an example for everyone to follow." This, this right here, this is who Captain America is Supposed to be. He is not a war criminal. The fact is he was Literally Picked for the Super Soldier Program Because his Heart is the Best of the Best. If he Didn't have that huge bleeding heart and raw courage then he'd just be Exactly what Erskine was trying to avoid... Do you know why he was wrongly labeled a War Criminal btw in the MCU? Because he defended Bucky who was Being Framed for blowing up King T'Chaka by Baron Helmut Zemo... even T'challa called Bucky a friend and granted him amnesty, and allowed him a place to hide from the UN within his own country before his actor Chadwick Boseman died, rest his soul.

I agree with some of the opinions in the video. Captains arguments are weak at best. But there was so much they didn't use. The Avengers did have and oversight system in place pre Secovia It was called SHIELD ... Im sorry HYDRA. I liked that point (that again wasn't used) especially compounded by the fact that one of said HYDRA i mean SHIELD agents is the one doing the bombing as a last FU. Also Zola final monologue was about freely giving up ones freedoms in fear would leave Capt keyed up. But none of it is brought up: though may inform black widow's actions. Double bad is that they don't show in any way if Steve has knowledge of his other teammates histories(Bar Howard and his wife). If he does then there is another reason for him not to sign the accords especially without reading the fine print. It is Thaddeus Ross who presents the accords to the Avengers and implied (later shown) that he oversaw the writing of and is handling interpenetration and enforcement of the accords (field command of teams and runs the SuperMax RAFT). This is the man now talking about taking accountability. A man whose later (ie movies) career involved human experimentation, Lying to at least one scientist of the purpose of said experiments, throwing a man out before having him hunted for 'escaping' (Among other things), several extra military actions in other countries, stole top secret serum, preforming experiments himself (mostly) creating Abomination, Destroyed one college campus, and led a military operation that resulted in 'breaking Harlem.' All of that to create human weapons. What was the accountability for these actions? A position of Secretary of State because of him supplying Abomination. This is apparently the shining example of people need accountability for their actions. The fact that none of that is used is criminal. There are enough red flags in that alone to ban the whole football league for the entire season but they voice none of it. truly criminal. But a (rightly) guilt ridden Tony is like just sign it 'I will even give you this awesome pen.' The way the accords are handled it seems as if you have access to extra-ordinary abilities you are guilty even with T'Challa very diplomatically immune self. I know the last is brought up post Civil War but the point is still there. Wow longer than i thought with the venting.

Captain America is not a war criminal based on that example. For starters there is no war. It's case of counter-terorrist operation going south. It was a tragedy and Cap could have shown more remorse, but he is world war veteran. He've seen worse and had to keep moving. I think he definitely has some sort of PTSD. And in the light of winter soldier movie's story, his scepticism of government was justified. It's like you didn't even watch the movies. MCU was actually mostly good up until past Endgame.

Was I the only one who thought Captain's side was the antihero faction? I was definitely on Stark's side. The world demands accountability and they all argue it's just a form of control when it's mostly a security measure. I think the MCU suffers from a lack of scope. Not in the degree of danger or scale, but from the size of cast. Too little "superheroes" to really drive home the amount of chaos caused by unregulated vigilante justice. The amount of death and destruction cause by a couple handful of egotists, but imagine if you couldn't go more than several miles without bumping into someone with powers. The amount of "villains" shoot up to justify the "heroes" but the frequency of conflict grows exponentially because it's not just superpowered villains that get fought, you'd also have to factor in regular criminals. The avengers grew in scale so fast that the "friendly neighborhood spiderman" is fighting an intergalactic alien tyrant in their first year. The more 'mundane' crime fighting just fizzles out within the span of a singular installment. Without timeskips, everything feels like it's rushing towards spectacle rather than staying faithful to their roots.

@@rhfuhf well...a little crisis management training would have helped. I'm a little fuzzy on memory of mcu, but could've swore they messed up before the bomb throw scene. Even then, from the cut it looks like that was the tallest building in the surroundings, seems stupid to throw it towards that when a backhand throw would clear any other building. Another option would be having backup, from an official deployment, rather than a private undercover sting. Cover the explosion with help or directing it upwards on the spot using a tube rather than a sphere would have been the easiest. If she's just strong stop he explosion from the get go, she is easily strong enough to leave the top open. A girl named Cloud 9 had to see a therapist because she used a rocket launcher to blow up an enemy plane and had a crisis because "They didn't eject out like in the movies" because she was like 15 and now a soldier and murderer. Not exactly the best plot. Later she effectively dissociates and becomes a killing machine. Good ol Child Soldiers.

You are absolutely right about Captain America. I was on team Tony Stark the entire time. And the fact that Cap was about to sign the accords, and changed his mind when he found out Wanda Maximov was "imprisoned", which basically amounted to house arrest at a 5 star resort, made me just despise Steve Rodgers. Vision put it best when he said that oversight is not something to be dismissed so lightly. And arguably, all of the Avengers are war criminals for one reason or another. Accepting the accords was accepting responsibility for those crimes. And why did Cap really dismiss them? To keep his brainwashed assassin best friend out of prison. It's asinine.

You have to remember this was right after Winter Soldier. Where SHIELD whom they had been working under (who were their oversight btw so all of their missions were government-approved) turned out to be Hydra and had nearly taken over the world. Now someone was telling him to let another faceless council control the team was too much too fast. He was having serious trust issues and no one wanted to acknowledge that Hydra was still being around, hydra nearly won, Hydra having his best friend was a lot of trauma no one was helping him deal with either. Because he gave up everything to stop Hydra and turns out, it just sorta delayed them a bit. Now to be fair if they had laid out the accountability on all levels it might have worked. Who is overseeing the council that would be overseeing them? Who is overseeing or vetting those people? Because again massive trust issues.

I just hate the movies takes nothing from that 1997 Incredibles comic. I’m that violet was more prominent than the other children and a mentor to Jake Jake, dash was actually a genius cuz he can think as fast as he can run and by vibrating his molecules he could go intangible and mis incredible was a reformed cereal killer. While Mr. Incredible was trying to get revenge on the person who gave him powers as it caused him to have sever internal pain at all times. And fro zone was actually the mayor of NY and his power came solely from his suit he was like Tony stark

@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 b.s you can’t find anything wrong with those idea that doesn’t come off your own opinion of what is already out, the only reason they changed is literally because they wanted a superhero kids movie
