Here's Mr. Raymond discussing how plumbing was installed back in the day.
Not your imagination but we did miss a part of the interview. What you missed:
-Mr. Raymond mentioned that drain cleaning was the biggest improvement to technology. They used a steel pushrod to unclog drains. The steel pushrod.....not a sewer tape.....but steel rods that individually fastened together and could even go through 2" bends.
-alot of material installed was installed because that's what was available. Because of the massive building boom there would be times material was rationed out. He mentioned for a period of time, he could only get 50' of cast iron pipe for one week....come back the next week and get another 50' etc.
-orangeburg pipe was thought to be a great thing because it was so much easier to install and plumbers weren't pulling out their back installing it. The pipe was simply pushed together....no compression fittings of any type.
