You broke racial barriers in a time where black people were ostracized and deemed not worthy of even swimming in a public pool. You bought a black man on the show and washed his feet (biblical) and shared the same pool as him which was seen as blasphemy at that time. I think Mr. Rogers would be horrified at children's programming today, with the violence, sexual innuendos, cultural polarization, and racial segregation as the under current...just complete opposite of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood's shows' message. A 20-something celebrity actor recently told a talk show host that he grew up watching Family Guy. I am a fan of Family Guy, but it is not a show for children by any means. It made me think of how differently an adult would be who watched Mr. Rogers vs. Family Guy. I have often thought that The Simpsons hasn't been on the air for 25 years, because adults watch it that much. It is another animation show that children are allowed to watch that isn't appropriate for them. It's been on the air so long, because several generation of children have grown up watching The Simpsons.

MR Rogers was ahead of his time. Talking truth to children. Today now parents have to pay to watch current Sesame Street. That's all we have for kids that's for real. Public TV doesn't have a place for that anymore. Look at what's going on today.

It is just so amazing on Arsenio gifted Mister Rogers with that jacket, but also spoke about the current issues that affected everyone then, even today. We have so much going on what with inflation, fighting and bickering between Democrats and Republicans, the riots, a lot of negativity in the press...the list can just go on and on. But Mister Rogers is absolutely right, there is no simple solution. But in times of trouble, like he said, look for the helpers. There's always someone out there willing to help when times are hard. This interview was something else. A lot of respect for the late Mister Rogers, even from Arsenio. Mister Rogers was definitely part of my childhood, and I was privileged to be his neighbor when watching his show. He is truly missed.

I know that if he'd had the time, Mr. Rogers would have asked Arsenio, "What does this jacket and these colors mean to you?", and would have genuinely wanted to learn about it.

I can't believe Rogers would guest star on such a show!! But, he loved exploring the world and would do so on his show to show kids the diversity of the world, so I guess it makes sense!

For what it's worth, the black community I have found was one of the most receptive audiences to Mr. Roger's message. And a lot of that is because out of ANYONE on television, he was arguably the most receptive to theirs. In fact, he was probably one of the easiest bookings Hall's team ever made, as he no doubt gleefully jumped at the chance to appear.

Old talk shows were so much better. It felt like people were actually having conversations rather than babbling about nothing while peppering corny jokes. Not everything has to be funny. An interesting conversation is impossible to find on modern network talk shows. That’s why they are losing their audiences to podcasts.

In all honesty, as a pagan, Mr. Rogers was probably the closest to living the life of Jesus in the modern world as we'll probably ever see. The man was truly about the people and wanted everyone to succeed and be happy.
