The best part about Mr. Rogers is that he never spoke down to you. He never talked as if you had a lesser understanding or no experience. Even though he knew his audience was overwhelmingly small children, he never belittled their intelligence. He just talked to you like a friend having a nice conversation.

Mr Rogers saved my life. I had unspeakable things happening to me when I was very small, and after it was over, I would somehow find my way to my green beanbag chair, and there he was. He told he I was special, worthy of love when I felt unlovable, unwanted, unclean, he spoke to me and my 4 year old heart. I struggled a lot as I grew up and young adulthood wasn't any easier, but I carried him with me always. He helped me to keep my heart open and to give better than I had received. He taught me to love and look through the lens of non-judgement. He was a gift to children, a gift to the world, and I feel blessed to have grown up in a time when he was on tv every day, reminding us all that we were worthy of God's love.

My much older brothers mocked him in the early 1970's. They told me our mom wanted me to be a girl, she wanted me to watch this "Sissy man" to change me into a girl, at some point I refused to watch with the support of my father. Very soon after I became a violent, abusive, bullying child, teen and young adult with an addictive personality/anti-social behavior disorder. At 41 y/o I watched Mr. Rogers, on-line, ask Sen. Pastore for funds to support his show on TV and realized I had been completely incorrect my ENTIRE life about Fred Rogers and his work. After a lifetime of distain for this amazing man and believing him to be a hypocrite and fake my false narrative was shattered by his sincere request and explanation. As I sat watching him, Mr. Rogers, talk to Sen. Pastore, I quietly said to myself: "I'm sorry Mr. Rogers for being so mean to you." Immediately I heard Mr. Roger's voice, in my head, reply: "That's o.k., John, we all make mistakes sometimes." Mr. Rogers had been dead for 4.5 years at that time, I don't say this to suggest the experience was supernatural or spiritual, but I will say I was absolved of any quilt at that moment. Thank you, Mr.Rogers.

@marynnalindseykerce7510

True. He had asthma as a child, and there were no effective therapies, so he had to avoid the usual vigorous outdoor play. A relative gave him sweets, and so, without outside play and with extra calories, he gained weight. He was bullied, then. His little dog and his maternal grandfather -- and many relatives -- helped him. His grandfather McFeeley would often say, "Freddie, my boy, you've made this day a special day just by you're being you." Fred Rogers was a musical and intellectual genius who knew and understood pain as well as love. He was genuine.

He studied developmental psychology and consulted with a leading expert. And, his testimony before Congress helped considerably to protect viewers' access to recording technologies, and to protect public funding for educational television. What a wonderful impact he made, a legacy that continues to help ❤

I miss him so much, but he lives forever in my heart and mind and soul, and I watch him on videos to keep his wisdom ongoing in my mind and read books about him. I feel like I knew him well. I wish I could have known him for real.

He had an amazing ability to use his medium to it's utmost potential. Thinking about how Mr. Rogers makes you feel in this video.....can you name another example of a time when anyone or anything on television made you feel the same way? I'll bet it's very rare.

Bro I feel so sad that no one told me about who Mr Rogers was about, even tho he died, I was born in 2004, why didn't no one told me to watch Mr Rogers, if I watch him in the past, I would have a different approach to who I am now, man Im sad and angry that I didn't hear about him until now, 17 years old, I know something I can still here, but my personality will not change, but I'll take his words "I like you just the way you are".

Man his shows were so interesting and real, wished you could've watched him as a kid. i remember him teaching us that looks, interests and culture doesn't matter. Its what on the inside. But being a kid, i liked the trolley.

Sometimes I wish that I could be as loving toward myself as Mr. Rogers was toward me as a kid in the early 1980s, watching him on TV. That saying about "we are our own worst critic (or enemy)," seems to ring true...at least in my case. Fred Rogers was truly "walking the walk" of a devout Christian. May he rest in peace.

As much as we need someone like Mr. Rogers back in these times, unfortunately nobody would ever embrace the old good values like this man portrayed for many generations. Look who they promote today as rich and famous and look at the ppl who follow them, they dont have a heart, their hearts have hardened. For me, Jesus Christ is my only hope and savior and for me thats more than I ever need. Revelation 22.

I was around 30 when he did this. I totally related to what he said. He taught me that I can be just who I am, and don't need anyone's approval, only my own. When the world tries to beat you down, just remember you can do whatever you want if you just have determination enough to push on through the negativity.

This man didn't just talk the talk, playing an on-screen persona that showed kindness and compassion towards others. He walked the walk, living and breathing those same qualities in this life even outside the studio. Fred Rogers was an incredible role model who poured out his heart and shared the lessons he learned growing up with the younger generations. In times like this, where violence, illness, and politically-motivated lawfare are more common than ever, we all need to stop and remember the lessons he taught.
