I love this menu. Split the cranberries, put a small amount in with the trail mix, and the rest in with the main before you rehydrate it. YUM. One of the things I really like about Mountain House meals is that they refuse to use any soy based "meat" in their meals. And they actually prepare the food, seasoning and all, before freeze drying it. Most of the competition freeze dry the components and mix it, as well as using what we now call plant based ingredients. But precooking the meals allows the flavors to meld and taste more like actual food.

Hey Me Ancient! Great video, as usual. Very informative breakdown of the various components of the MRE. The Chinese food did look really good. It's gratifying to see that the government is trying to give a little taste of "home", to our troops in the field. I wonder if taking your spoon and stirring the freeze dried food after putting in the hot water, would help eliminate the dry spots in the food. One thing I want to compliment you on, is the beautiful landscaping of the shrubs and flowers in the background. Someone has put a lot of effort into that, and it looks very attractive. Really enjoy the stories of your tour in the Marines, keep the videos coming. God bless.

My love for seafood would still have me reaching for the mixed seafood MRE from a few weeks past but this meal is an incredible second. choice. Brought back some happy memories from our hobby-farm. We lived near a lake and way off to one side of the parking lot there was a patch of wild cranberries. They were hidden by some high-bush blueberries. Every year I was able to use a blueberry rake to harvest two or three buckets of cranberries. Some went to a friend who did a lot of baking, some got prepped and into the freezer. Starting with the holidays, we zested discounted oranges and squeezed out the juice. The berries were simmered in the orange juice w/zest along with a healthy dose of real maple syrup. Sometimes, a bit of ginger root was added. Strangely, my local supermarket here in the Philippines has Ocean Spray brand in both the jelly and whole berry styles in stock before the end of year holidays. Load up for the year while you can.

Actually cranberries grow in Europe also. Here in Finland our cranberries grow only in swamps / bogs and they are very delicious. They do however grow in extremely smaller amounts than American ones. Many Americans have said that they taste significantly better than those in New World. Blueberries are also another thing that many thing only grow in America, but actually European blueberries are also a thing, and American blueberries were named after them. European blueberries are also blue / purple in the inside. Tastewise many prefer European blueberries. The best of berries however is (without question) cloudberries. They grow in swamps and the cloudberry plant produces just one berry. Hard work to pick but very very delicious. Ps. I am not here to shit on American berries xD

2 жыл бұрын
Eric, Thank you for your kind words about me. Regarding Ace, you might be interested to know that he was filming and editing and uploading videos to KZitem for over a year before he was able to get monetized. He also ran a very successful window cleaning business and worked as a waiter at Cracker Barrel (a job he found to upgrade from the one he had at Chick Fil A) - all at the same time. Before that, he cleaned houses, shoveled snow, and did yard cleanup work from ads he posted on Craigslist. While he was cleaning windows, he would listen to every podcast he could find about building a KZitem channel and making quality videos. I would say that with the hours he has put in to reading books and articles and listening to podcasts and watching videos about the subject, he has at least a Master's Degree in KZitem (if they awarded such degrees based on hours of study and knowledge of the subject). All that to say, he did work diligently, as you suggested. KZitem didn't even begin to pay back all the money (to say nothing of his time) that he put into it until at least 2 years after he began his channel. He has worked hard and saved his money and his mother and I are very proud of what he has put together on KZitem. Don't worry about Ace, he has great down to earth values. TFW!

It was! I ended up making it even better by adding peanuts to the Chinese food for a Kung Pau Chicken kind of taste. It was great! TFW, Wanda!

Caleb...no kidding. The dish we had was called Imperial Twin. It had beef and shrimp in it. Also had baby corn. I had never seen anything like it. I lived in Arkansas for 2 years. Met and married my wife of 42 years there. I have lots of good memories of Arkansas. TFW!

Nice looking MRE, I thought those desert bars only came in the first strike rations too.

I don't know about he first strike rations, but this one sure did have a dessert bar, although I didn't think it was all that good. Of course, if I were in the field, I'd a either traded it off or gobbled it down if I couldn't find a good trade. It tasted a little like chocolate/cherry cake with the cranberries. TFW!
