in 1860 John Dunn built this three-story building and ordered a mill from GA to create a water-powered cotton factory. The machinery for the mill had been delivered to the Enterprise Mississippi railroad station when the War Between the States was declared. The Confederate government confiscated John's building and machinery and under his supervision, the mill was used to manufacture blankets, hats and knives. During the war, an additional building was added which housed a blacksmith shop, a distillery and machinery for carding wool used to make soldier's clothing. Dunn had an apprentice who learned how to make hats. That apprentice later went into business for himself producing a hat that would become world famous. His name was John B. Stetson.
Dunn's Falls serves as a rest stop for canoes paddling down the Chunky River and a play area for others who come to climb the falls or fish. Primitive camping spaces are available as well as a hiking trail. For a little more comfortable "camping" experience, cabin rentals may be more your speed.
