You I have not noticed any difference between Stihl Ultra and Stihl HP. The only difference I can not is HP contains 77 ml of oil and the one gallon Ultra bottle contains 71-73 ml of oil. Since I measure everything, my gallon of Pond Water always contains 77 ml of oil, which is slightly better than a 50:1 ratio.

I bought a 201T mtronic off of a tree service. Upon teardown inspection I found the internal cases,cylinder ports and piston covered in this black sludgy coating.

I know that Stihl Ultra leaves a light coating of ash in the cylinder. However, I have never had an engine failure as a result of using Stihl Ultra at 50:1. I do not run my saws at the very threshold of their capabilities, as some do. I have tried other two cycle oils, but these too have their limitations. The best alternative to Ultra I have found is HUSQVARNA XP, but I am not satisfied with it either. Walt uses it but I see to many failures in his saws for me to jump on to the XP bandwagon. All my saws are still running on Ultra. I do tend to like Stihl Moto Mixa a little better than my home brew but it costs over $40 a gallon these days. I liked Red Armor until it started separating in my gas. FD oils also cause an increased pull over in my saws, which I do not like.

Any FD rated oil is better than Stihl Ultra. OR Stihl HP for that matter.

@@stihlvarna I agree but FD oils have some problems, too.

Try Motul 800 off-road for the same price. I doubt you'll change to something else after

I just picked up a bottle of Sabre. I will try after I get done with Schaffer’s 9000 . I bet they are comparable in quality. Thanks for the info.

Doesn't look as bad as I expected for hp ultra. Did the fuel smell like gasoline? Just pulled plugs and mufflers on my stihl fs 70r and ryobi blower motomix (+10.3 ml ultra to make 44:1) guinea pigs and still no buildup with shiny piston crowns🤷🏻♂️ must be something about the alkylate fuel used in motomix, as I've seen plenty of nasty from hp ultra mixed with pump gas!

Nice video Rich. I thought 461s have a reputation of running hot. No signs of that on the 461 you have?

I just switched from ultra to saber Because my 500i piston is covered in carbon and some glazing before the first ring on the piston, thank you for the info on ultra. Should I get the carbon cleaned off the piston or is it normal? Thanks awesome videos.
@richardflagg3084

Saber should clean that up over time. You can add a couple ounces of Seafoam per gallon to your mixed gas next time you make a batch of fuel. That should speed things up.

Rich nice info on the wear. 🌝🙃😘💪 The numbers show how a piston is structured and tapered off to where the most heat is. 👍😄😋🥲🥲
