MSNBC's Morning Joe show interviewed Robbins, Inc. President and CEO, Jay Stoehr, in a live segment at John McDonogh High School unveiling the new gymnasium floor that Robbins, Inc. & Covington Flooring donated in response to Digger Phelps' challenge in 2009. The employees at Robbins, Inc. were literally "floored" when Phelps, the former head basketball coach for the University of Notre Dame, challenged them on national TV. As one of the schools still in despair after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans 4 years earlier, John McDonogh was not only in need of a new gym floor, they were in need of a little hope as well. With Digger Phelps by their side, an organized campaign between Starbucks and MSNBC was formed to begin repairing the damage left behind. Upon his arrival in the gymnasium where filming was taking place, Digger Phelps knew something had to be done about the deteriorating floor the athletes at John McDonogh HS competed on year after year.
