Things Shane didn’t mention : Mussolini and his lady got overthrown, beat to death and displayed by Italians that disagreed with his agreement with hitler then they switched sides, kamikaze soldiers were between 18-23 with the belief of dying for their land and empire and if they came back alive they would be tortured and killed for cowardice, Japanese also used farmers and kids 60-70 or 12-14 years old, Japanese told their troops lies about US soldiers to ensure they felt they were fighting to punish “evil”, and the US cut off their oil supply leaving them with only 2 years worth of oil then they attacked Manchuria for their oil and bombed Pearl Harbor in retaliation thus prompting the US to officially join the war.

The propaganda from Japan is something pretty much every nation employs in wartime. Take a look at the caricatures of the Japanese from the USA depicting them as rats, the obvious Nazi depictions of Jews, but even today the Russians depicting the Ukrainians as genocidal blue-skinned inhuman figures. Unfortunately the brain-washing is everywhere and we’ve far from grown out of it.
@owenburr7738
3 ай бұрын
The thing about the Kamikazes is a little misleading, they were trained pilots and a valuable resource to the Japanese Army/Navy. If they weren’t able to complete their mission due to something like weather or inability to find their target they weren’t killed or tortured as this would have been a waste. It was only if returns became a reoccurring event with a pilot that they would be executed.

Death being worse than torture is entirely subjective. How did you miss that much of history and also make up a statement that no one said and lose an argument against it?

Japan joined the Axis because their negotiations with America were turning hostile and they felt that they couldn't bargain with the US on equal ground without powerful allies, because they rightly understood their incredible weakness in military power if they stood alone against America. The Tripartite Pact strengthened their position, which directly lead to the splitting of US forces between Europe and Asia at the same time, which did take a substantial burden off the Japanese Empire.

Churchill didn't just say that... for fuck's sake. Just missed 5 paragraphs: "No American will think it wrong of me if I proclaim to have the United States at our side was to me the greatest joy. I could not foretell the course of events. I do not pretend to have measured accurately the martial might of Japan, but now at this very moment I knew that the United States was in the war, up to the neck and in to the death. So we had won after all! Yes, after Dunkirk; after the Fall of France; after the horrible episode of Oran; after the threat of invasion, when, apart from the Air and the Navy, we were an almost unarmed people; after the deadly struggle of the U-boat war-the first Battle of the Atlantic, gained by a hand’s breadth; after seventeen months of lonely fighting and nineteen months of my responsibility in dire stress. We had won the war. England would live; Britain would live; the Commonwealth of Nations and the Empire would live. How long the war would last or in what fashion it would end no man could tell, nor did I at this moment care. Once again in our long island history we should emerge, however mauled or mutilated, safe and victorious. We should not be wiped out. Our history would not come to an end. We might not even have to die as individuals. Hitler’s fate was sealed. Mussolini’s fate was sealed. As for the Japanese, they would be ground to powder. All the rest was merely the proper application of overwhelming force. The British Empire, the Soviet Union, and now the United States, bound together with every scrap of their life and strength, were, according to my lights, twice or even thrice the force of their antagonists. No doubt it would take a long time. I expected terrible forfeits in the East; but all this would be merely a passing phase. United we could subdue everybody else in the world. Many disasters, immeasurable cost and tribulation lay ahead, but there was no more doubt about the end….Being saturated and satiated with emotion and sensation, I went to bed and slept the sleep of the saved and thankful."
