At the beginning of the summer (before the smoke) Clay and I headed up to Mt. Crawford and spent the night at Plaid late to explore some of the other peaks in the area.
My Crawford itself is a short hike - just 2.3 km one way, and 500 m elevation gain. If you don't have good clearance on your vehicle, you'll need to add an extra hour to your hike each way. The last bit is pretty steep, but not too scrambly.
Plaid lake is on the other side of the saddle, at around the same elevation as the parking area, so be prepared for a hike down (and back up). Also come prepared to fight off the bugs!
There are two peaks to the west of the saddle that make very nice hikes.
