It's been 2 years since my last visit to Mt Mitchell to do sunrise with my best mate and copped a white out. It was time to finally return to the mountain but this time without my best mate who recently passed.
I've been having a hard time of late and felt pretty overwhelmed and emotional and as a result my mental health has suffered badly to the point I had a major breakdown and taken a few weeks out of everyday life to try and balance everything out again.
Unfortunately I happened across a Pademelon that, after speaking with the park ranger has more than likely suffered a similar fate to one he had found that had been attacked by a dingo.
Feeling bad I couldn't do anything to help it, it got to me being pretty fragile still and affected me for the rest of the hike.
PLEASE don't neglect your mental health and someone you know that is struggling with mental health issues. Check in on them regularly because you never know just what that phone call or visit can do to someone that can't see the way out of the situation they are in. You never know when you might find yourself in a situation you never expected and seeing that part of you you didn't know existed and how to deal with.
If you've read all of this, thank you for taking the time to read about something that is very personal to me and live with everyday. I'm lucky that I'm strong enough to know there is a way out and have the support when I need it and the creative outlets through art and music to help.
