I can tell you right now I had several muscle cars and several drag cars back in the day the 80s and early 90s if I could have all that money back I would gladly take it back. It was fun while it lasted but in the end I realized now it almost 60 I was throwing good money after bad. I would love to have another basically stock muscle car and just leave it that way, well maybe nice dual exhaust or some different wheels and tires LOL

@@minimanadam not everyone has that skill if most people do it they end up just butchering their car there's more than just cutting and welding of fender Wells a lot of times the frame has to be narrowed if it has a frame there's several other things to consider.

I used to run Sportsman's (29 x 15.5 x 15) on my Fairlane but found that the traction was terrible and they wanted to follow the dips in the road caused by semi's dual tires. I now run Hoosier tires are they is no comparison in the improved handling and traction.

You can see me pump the brake and hit the linelock clear as day, obviously im not trying to launch the car down asphalt covered in pebbles! the title is simply referring to the fact that these tires wont consistently hook on the track, they want 8psi and a violent burnout to even begin to grip just wanted to address the guys who are confused

I ran 19.5x33 MT Sprotsmans on my Monte SS in the 90s. Had a 350 HP crate motor, 3500 stall and 4.86 gears. Car would do what your Monte is. Cool because everyone thought it was hotter than it was and it cruised nice. Frustrating at the track, spinning tires to the 60 foot every time. Water box for burnouts was avoided like the plague.

@@KingJT80 The car was tubbed, caged, painted and a new TCI Super street fighter and driveshaft set up using an old rusty 454 block. A dozen of my friends with pro street cars were going to the 1994 Street Machine Nationals. Tag along as a 3rd wheel and let my car sit till 1995, or call Summit and pay $1,300 for a 350 HP SBC and $70 headers? The Torque Converter was a TCI spec'd item that matched my entire car and future big block. It wasn't as mismatched as you'd think. 4.86s are only 4.10 with them tires and the 272 cam liked that stall and gear ratio. Hit the tires hard!

I'm just wondering how much air pressure you run in them. I have MT sportsman pro's on my 70 chevelle and they hook hard but thats with 12 psi. Usually drive around with about 16

he said 8PSI above. he said even then it wanted an extremely violent burnout to get them to grip right. not worth the money for a engine that cn turn that kind of RPM and make that kind of power

Nice. Seems like it would go. But, he was doing a burnout not launching. Too many negative comments. Jealous maybe. Car is sweet. One thing I learned, is there is always something faster. But, if you got a cool looking car like this that can spin those big ass tires, your doing well.

I also had a pair 18 × 31(not pros) 7.50 1/8 1.8 60 ft. was by far the best it would go on them and very inconsistent but it allowed me to drive around legally finally got a set or hooser 31 x 15 slicks no other change went 6.90's 1.52 60 ft and was much more consistent.

You have too wide of wheels . Get on some clean concrete and you will see only one edge or maybe both outside edges of the tread putting down rubber just like I could see the outside edge of both rears smoking. Try that with wheels 2/3rds that wide and experiment with much lower pressures until you leave uniform rubber across all the tread. If necessary go half as wide and reduce pressure still further. Also: weight down the car as much as you dare. let the pressure down to 3 or 4 and break down your sidewalls. Do it right and they will wrinkle the sidewalls and stay that way. Lastly I don't like how your suspension works. The back end should squat not rise under power. 40 years ago we liked front end lift too. But a well sorted 3-link + panhard rod setup should just use pinion gear climb transferred through the three links to squat the car. You also should study the alternative if you don't want to lose your rear seat - a single ladder bar setup that's a copy of what Buick GNX used. Good luck.

@@KingJT80 Been street racing cars for money since the 348 came out. I'd have ruled totally if I had had tires half that good back back then. But I know that some guys already know everything and also that you can't seem to ever get 'em to put their money where their mouth is. We always just tried not to let those types know where the deal was going down the next time, lol.

Just for show and slow pro street looking cars that could never turn a tire that size even if they tried. But I figured a 505 BBC stroker could easily do it. But they don't hook those sportsman's...

I run mt sportsman pros on my 78 camaro because its the only tire i can even find in my size 28x12.5x15 that are not slicks for my Centerline 15x12 rims.amybody know anything better? Cuz i definitely cant afford new rims and tires..

I had a set of N 50 Mickey Thompson's on my 67 Pontiac LeMans it wasn't tubbed I was old school. I had to roll the fenders in just a little bit and they fit Ram Air 3 400 built about 675 horsepower 411 positraction rear end I could roast those mickeys Telling the wife now that the kids are grown and moved out of the house it's time to get us another muscle car she just rolls her eyes.

Weren’t the Sportsmans just for looks and ride and the Sportsman Pros the actual sticky performance version? That also looks like the world’s worst surface, and it looks like you have about 40 psi in the tires, and I would certainly hope you could torque that thing up on the brakes/line lock and fry about ANY tire like that. If not, that cam would be all show and no go, haha!

First of all that was an intentional burnout. Secondly, even if you were gonna try to launch it there, that surface is terrible. Lastly, those tires need to be aired down if you wanted to try and hook up.
