Great vid. I never go without my knee pads but usually don't wear elbow pads anymore. Unfortunate part is, you pad up, then when you take a spill, you end up skinning the one area you pads don't cover! LOL. I just fell yesterday and skinned up my shin, right below where the pad ends.

Omg, so true! My friend Kelly had on both and ended up slicing her shin, just below the knee pad. Still, these would have saved me, my forearm and knee took the hit. See ya out there!

I ride some gnarly stuff, so I have torso guard, neck brace too. but the knee pads will protect me when i hit a tree or fall to the side. I ride in rock gardens and places where I can fall off some rock rollers, but if I take a easy ride I don't wear that, but I still wear knee, elbow and a full face. But I have a camera on the chin guard, so that's another reason I keep using a full face.

Thank you so much for posting this video! So great to see bike gear reviews posted by a woman. This is fantastic!!! I'm more of a DH rider, but am starting to do more pedally XC type rides. I've been looking for knee and elbow protection that is lighter weight than my bulky DH gear and have had issues in the past with finding stuff that fits me properly. I'm a bit shorter than you, but have a kind of a similar shape. You reviewed many of the pads I was debating over, and have done an excellent job at explaining the pros and cons of each. Thank you for helping me decide :)

I really appreciate this video! I've been cycling at the gym for the past two months with zero issues. However, I recently upped my workouts to 95 minutes with my forearms resting on the handlebars for the first 65 minutes. I only sit up with my hands on the handlebars for the last 30 minutes of my ride. With that said, my forearms have been getting sore and scaly/ scabbish lately, so I clearly need some sort of extra protection and I really liked one of the brands that you showed. Also, if you have any suggestions for cycling pants with extra padding then that would be great. No matter what brand I buy, my inner thighs are always sore and the padding is never long enough. By the way, kudos to you ladies for getting out there and doing some serious cycling. Wow!

Great video. It's hard to find reviews by women for women riding MTB's. Very informative makes it easier to choose elbow and knee protection. I am shopping for a new set. I have the G-Form Elbow pads and I despise how they pinch my upper arm. Also I find them hot and uncomfortable. I am a big believer in elbow and knee guards because I still have dark scars on my elbow from an MTB crash more than 2 years ago. I don't know if they'll ever go away. Sigh.

Thanks so much! That was why I started making videos, there are definitely more women making bike content now. But we’re still out numbered. The troylee ones work for me, but they are kind of loose on the arms, but they stay up enough.

Too thin pads is also a concern. I've crash tested Leatt FlexAir Pro, they were about 5mm thick, I went OTB at a rock roller, I went too far to the right, and and went OTB and hit a a rock, as result I could not walk normally for 3 days, and had huge swelling for few weeks. But I am fine now, only tiny swelling, sometimes it cgets bigger and smaller. So make sure to use the right pads. Thin pads are fine for light xc, trail riding. But for for falling off rock rollers, smashing into rocks you need thick pads. The pads that had the best coverage was Poc vpd2.0 long, 1cmnoad, great side protection. They but they were too warm, I got itchy, runny rashes every time I wore them in the summer, I could not take it any more. But now I have the new Pearl Izumi Elevate, so far I like them. Breathable, extra breathable when knee is straight, as pads get lifted away from the leg, and grip tight when bent. A song as you put them on right, they should stay secure. The D3O pads are soft, but stick out a bit when knee is bent. But many vents and it works, but previous version did not have the thin sliding pad on top, but still breathable enough. The pads are 1cm thick, same as the vpd2.0 but much softer. The vpd2.0 gets softer with body heat but are still firmer. You can take out the pads, which you can't with Poc, Leatt. All were in size medium. My legs are typical cycling legs, so quite big, but my arms are quite thin, bit bigger than years ago, but still not big. But all fit me well, but the Leatt had Bands that dug in deep, and left deep marks for long, the Poc, and Pearl Izumi did not, just normal indents. And it went away. But Leatt left marks that could last until next day. Another thing to note is the elbow pads will be painful if worn wrong, I had to make sure the sleeve was not too far up at the lower arm, I had to pull it as far down as it could.

All great info. Thanks for sharing. I 100% agree on the g-form, they were really warm, but I didn’t think they would move on my thick legs. I’ve been really happy with the POC 2.0, but I haven’t crashed on them yet. For me, I’m mainly riding cross country, with a few features, so having a little something on my elbows is nice, but, my Troy lee sleeves are not going to save me on a bad rock roll crash. Stay safe out there!

@@AdventureMuse The pearl Izumi Elevate are breathable but of course with temps close to 30C, it will of course still be warm, and warmer than without pads, but I was not overheating or getting soaked in sweat, I of course got sweaty, but not like in a sauna, but in direct sunlight they felt like standing near a furnace at full flame. But great protection for super gnarly riding, as long as it's not too warm, or you ride too much. So I am glad I got them, but I will see how they perform long-term. They seemed like the best option, I've probably looked at pad out there.

The Poc pads are durable, I had the elbow pad, but it did not fit me that well and left a weird gap at the top, no strap at the top, nor any band to keep it on properly, but bottom had a strap just like the knee pads but at the bottom, but same type of strap. but I sold them, they were also not super breathable, could be better, but the knee pads are probably more secure, especially with my legs, but I did not try them. but the VPD2.0 DH and VPD2.0 pads fit well and there was no weird gap, as they had straps. The VPD2.0 DH knee, elbow pads were very durable and great longevity, also easy to repair, I had them for 7 years, I had two of each, apart from the elbow pads, I had VPD2.0 DH and VPD2.0 pads, but still great protection. but way too warm and sweaty, I got soaked, and got rashes at the legs, but my legs sweat more than my arms. I updated my written review of the pads.

Knee pads for Women? Does that really make a difference? I think with some brands it might. So I think this is the fault of the pads. and men and women can wear same pads, if they are well thought out. I see leg muscles are not as big as mine, but women can have big leg muscles too, and shape can be different too, genetics, how much you ride change things, all of this goes for both women and men. But if the pads are well thought out and there are enough sizes they should fit well. But not all pads are great. But I suggest to check out the Pearl Izumi Elevate pads. thick but well ventilated, and they offer many sizes.

@@AdventureMuse ok, that's what i thought. But I know some stuff needs to be women specific, like chamois, jerseys if they are not the really baggy kind, I see there are women's shoes, I think they are narrower, but not sure. But I see there are exceptions to the ''rules'' I see that some women prefer the mens bikes as they fit better, some men prefer the women's bikes, but width is an issue for me, as I can use 42-44 depending on brand, there does not seem to be a standard for it, nor any width number in size charts. I looked at Ride Concept lately, I saw they recommend 41.5 for my size of feet: 26.5 long, 11cm wide. I use 44 with Five Ten, 45 is too big, but 44 is just right, not tried 43 yet, but i suspect they will be too narrow. I wore out my Freerider High, so will have to get new shoes, and Adidas/FiveTen do not offer Freerider currently, but I see some of their offerings come and go. But I don't know if they discontinued it. What have you noticed with mens and women's shoes? have you tried both?
