Welp! The last ride back home had to come some time! We're moving to Canada for the forseeable future! HELL YEA! The times flown by while also seeming so far away. Unfortunately for me, the New Zealand weather doesn't give a damn about me enjoying my last pedal with my friends, the sky's were open and the rain was coming down, along with a plathora of trees throughout the forest from a high wind storm the night before. Completely should have expected the conditions we had but I was optimistic and hopeful.
We started off with the top section of Minerals, which we didn't get far down before we found our first downed tree, which turned out to be 3 in a short succesion haha. After removing those we had the bright idea to head over towards Riff Raff. So up to Under Billy and Billy T for some fun.
More trees down and same with the rain. Conditions were tough with a lot of mistakes. Survival was the main goal, I'm not trying to get hurt before we get to our new home lol. Brook hucked the double fresh out of the trees in the rain and wind, maddog. Also the first time I've ever used the berm and not the step down or drop beside the shuttle road, you carry heaps more speed into the next left hand berm. Heaps good.
Up at Riff Raff and the weather was giving us it's all. 'Get to the bottom in one piece' was the name of the game today lol. A few mistakes on the way down, nearly lost the front a couple of times, once on the pine nettles and in the slippery berms, which weren't dusty for a change so that was kinda nice haha. Easy money down to the bottom though. Took my time and picked my way down.
Up to the 1/3 point of Te Mounga for a run on the bottom part, the open section was flowing mint with Metzy unlocking a sick hop in front of me near the start. Good pace down here, the wet ground seems to hold mega traction down this open section. One BIG moment on the last berm before the 2/3s road, nearly tucked the front. Down the other side was more survival and foliage clearing.
The shuttle took us back to the top so we could head home, Eagle vs Shark into the bottom half of Te Rua was a treat. I love riding this section of trail in this order, the speeds you have down eagle seem to flow into that Te Rua section so mint. With the option of some big lines with enough speed carried.
Helluvah day on the wagon.
Enjoy!
