Excellent instructional video. Speaks clearly, repeats steps as needed. Adds tips and pointers here & there (that are obviously gained from experience) where appropriate. Best of all - no music! The only suggestion - consider some additional LED lighting but be careful. Those dark cavities can be difficult to light up without glare bouncing back off of the shiny parts. Well done sir. Excellent Video as usual. Both Part 1 & Part 2 Transmission Videos gave me the confidence to repair the Transmission on my MTD Snowblower. A few other Videos on this site helped me Re-Build My Motor. So now my "Old MTD" Snowblower runs like it's brand new.

Thanks for this video series. I have a Troy Bilt 5524, and it was in need of tranny service. I found your video by chance, and I followed your instructions exactly. My version has one or two washers different than yours, but was mostly the same. Works great now. I am grooving on all of your videos now. As a kid I used to love to tinker with one lungs.

Great video compared to so many others. Nice, clear focused video, articulate step by step descriptions, and watching the guy's mechanical aptitude/dexterity (compared to other You Tube mechanics) is a lesson in itself. Thanks DonyBoy...a lot !

That is an easy job but very expensive compared to the value of a 15 year old snow blower when you are done. I thought maybe replace the roller bearings and they are $43 plus tax each so forget that! When I got the machine it was very sloppy because someone else had tried to fix it before. It seemed to me that every part had wear because it probably never got any grease ever! Maybe thats why they only sell the complete kit. I did fix the problem but it required some extra washers etc. to take up the slop. I wish I would have seen your video first to see where all the parts go but I had to scratch me head a few times and then had to shampoo my hair a couple times to get rid of all the old grease! LOL WEAR THE GLOVES is my tip for today! Good video. You are one of the few that knows what you are doing!

So on a 12 year old Yardworks Blower that has never been greased do you think it's a waste to grease now? LOL The blower works fine. Gears sound a little loud when pulling it backwards when the engine is off.

Hey Dony, I'm getting two snowblowers tomrrow, an Ariens and a Simplicity for 100$, and they each need transmission work. Is it only MTD that makes you buy an entire gear set, or do Ariens and Simplicity make you do it to? Thank you for the video!

is there no drive shaft shear bolt? I replaced my friction wheel and now the wheels won't engage when it's on the ground. when I lift the blower off the ground the wheels will engage fine. any thoughts? maybe I need to pull the drive shaft out re install the clips in proper location. my blower only has the one gear on the drive shaft.

I thought you would use wheel bearing grease on the shaft for the wheels. I guess not.

Would you be willing to give an idea of your labor rates? I work at an equipment dealer and there's no way it would have made sense for us to perform this large of a repair... the cost of the repair would have exceeded the value of the machine, and it seems to be a battle we fight daily with the consumer market stuff.

At 3:30 you mention using oil mixed with transmission fluid, and I've heard that in other videos of yours. What's the purpose or benefit of mixing them together? Is it ATF? And finally what is the ratio mixture? Thanks and Great videos!
@donyboy73

I find the ATF really sticks to parts and the other oil that is mixed with it is thicker
