I have 2 exact same versions of this knife one came with sheath like yours, the other came with a "bushcraft" sheath with multiple hook and loop attachments and the silly pouch for whetstone, ferro rod and other stuff. While the knife is just fine as a cheap camp knife, the "bushcraft" sheath version is the one that goes camping! Mtech obviously chinsed out on the sheath to keep the price down.

When they won't say what steel it is they recycle scrap in lots. The steel is not bad it is a mixture which is the same process that designer steels go through but without proprietary name. It is then tested for tinsel strength and hardness after a heat treat, then sent to production. That keeps the cost down. I know SOG did it for decades and I used a Seal Pup in the nylon sheath, hard daily use for over 15 years. Finally broke it being stupid:)

Yeah for $20 bucks it seems a very stout knife. I always wanted one of those SEAL pups, just never got one for whatever reason.

Yeah I think that as long as people use these types of budget knives within reason, they seem decent for the money.

@@marshfootoutdoors You were either extremely lucky with that blade or you touched it up before the video.I have some Mtech blades because I wanted to see what was up with Chinese blades and I have never had one from a factory that would slice paper. I have spent over $250 on CRK blades that were dull as butter knives from the factory. Cold Steel is the ONLY brand that I have seen consistently sharp from the factory and as I own 9 Japanese-made san mai III VG1 blades by Cold Steel I feel qualified to pass judgment. I have a couple of Chinese-made blades that were worth the money I spent but YOU ARE GOING TO SHARPEN THEM BEFORE THEY CUT SKINNY RECEIPT PAPER! kzitem.info/news/bejne/poF7rGWkhKN0jJg

I guess I got lucky, I do not sharpen any of these brand new knives that I review, they are straight out the box, initial impressions and cut tests. Btw, you sound like Bruce, the great white shark from Finding Dory 😆✌️🇺🇸🇦🇺

The thing you called a heal is actually called a “sharpening choil”. It’s a cutout to allow your sharpening stone to sharpen the entire length of the blade without bumping into anything.

Yeah, I have since learned that and it makes a lot of sense, but I’m still not a huge fan of them. Thanks for commenting ✌️🇺🇸

The part that catches your cordage and bugs you is a sharpening choil. It serves to aid in sharpening.

Nice budget knife. Under 16 bucks hard to beat. Sheath does seem cheap but it will do the job. The Steel on this knife according to Mtech is 3cr13. It’s a tough steel as far as breaking. Some of these cr steels can be frustrating to sharpen because the edge will keep rolling back and forth. Another great knife review.

Funny thing about Mtech they have such a mixed bag. You get the KZitem group that hate Mtech. Then there are some other guys that said hold on it’s a $20 knife competing with knives way above its price. I have the 151 the trailmaster copy ( I say copy because it’s not a clone it’s not nowhere near 5/16 thick) I love the knife to bad they stopped making it. I love budget knives like BPS adventurer, or odenwolf. Both of those are amazing. The one important thing I’ve found out over the years. The knife manufacturers are just marketing maniacs. They manipulate the knife community like crazy. New super steels are just steels they changed the name on. Most have been around for more then 20 years. Second the difference in steels is so small nobody can really tell without equipment. The basics are stainless is brittle carbon is best but rusts. So stainless is good if you don’t wanna maintain your tools. Hardness also equals hard to sharpen. Regardless of type of steel. In my use toughness and easy to sharpen out weights edge retention. Most who want crazy edge retention don’t really use their tools. Anyone that’s been on a long camping trip and chipped a blade that was supposed to be super steel knows how long it takes to even somewhat fix versus a short machete you hit a rock with and fixed the whole edge it 10min with a file and a stone. Well sorry went off on a side while waiting for my coffee 😅

They do the heal of the knives like that for a choil to choke up on for finer detail work. Me personally I agree with you 100 percent. Absolutely hate them. They are however useful in your more larger blades say 7" and up. I don't like them in 6" blades or under. Don't think they're a whole lot useful in the shorter blades.

Yep l agree with you there, a true choil on a big blade is nice, on these types of knives, their not even big enough to be an actual choil, so they need to just not do them at all, imho. Thanks for watching and commenting.

OCD is not a disorder until it inhibits progress or damages relationships. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a high standard for what you do! I think all of our youth should serve three years in one of our armed forces so they can learn the value of organization, mind and gear. You wouldn't want some lazy messy idiot packing your shoot or working on your rifle, would you?
