Thank you for this video introducing me to Black gardens. I went top 10 at my first high stakes tournament with a list very similar to yours. I appreciate the introduction!!

Absolutely, that's the entire purpose of my channel is to provide entry level information and opportunity to explore new decks and archetypes lots of MTGO play content, not enough deck reviews and explanations.

Glad you love it brother! There's a good chance this decks also going to remain one of the best decks in the format so it'd be a good choice to build!

Great review as always! Alway a pleasure to watch your informative videos. I was wondering what are your thoughts on Lists that use Snuff out in main vs the list who doesn't. Is it a huge disadvantage not to run snuff out?
@GoldLotusPauperMTG
Жыл бұрын
For me from personal experience Snuff Out is awesome but it is an absolute nightmare if you play decks with black. The opponent plays through your hard removal spells and it's just dead draws for you. Cast Down is never a dead draw except for the rare bogles matchup in which is fine since you have mainboard edicts as well. I like snuff out just not in a control deck that relies on constant creature removal

Nice work! Particularly I find Guildsworn Prowler makes it easier to survive in the beginning of the match whereas Llanowar Visionary, being a drop-3, makes the deck a bit slower.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG
Жыл бұрын
I actually am cutting the two Llanowar Visionaries in favor of a super secret tech that's a two drop that should help me close out games pretty quickly. It's a weird tech and could be risky but the last tech I played (Blighted Agent in U/W Caw Gates) actually paid off and won me two matches en route to a 4-1 1st Place finish so I'm hoping this secret tech does the same!

What is this super secret tech? My guess would be 2 copies of Bayou Groff... The sac trigger can eat a plant token in exchange for a Turn 2 5/4! Am I close?
@GoldLotusPauperMTG
Жыл бұрын
No that's not it but goddamn is that a great idea, I run that in my mono green stompy but with a T1 Kahlni Gardens into a Plant Token a T2 Bayou Groff is absolutely brutal! If they don't have quick response to it that's a huge threat right away!

Thank you for the review. Can this deck function without Avenging Hunter if it's banned? Was thinking of upping the artifact count to try Bleak-Coven Vampires/Vampire Sovereign. I even want to try Loathsome Curator Gorgon but I haven't seen anyone use her.
@GoldLotusPauperMTG

The deck can certainly function without Initiative as there are versions of this deck that don't run it but for me and my build this deck needs a few late game bombs that can apply pressure, plus initiative slots well into a control deck where it's doubtful the opponent will ever be able to take it from you. But in the case of the two initiative creatures getting the hammer (which is a legit possibility thanks to sticker initiative) I could see something like Bleak Coven slotting in as well. Great suggestion!

sounds like a good concept not sure if this is a good idea but is Witch's Cottage a good idea for this deck since you might want to recover a creature somewhere down the line? and you have the Troll to tutor for it anyway
@GoldLotusPauperMTG
Жыл бұрын
It's actually a great idea, since the deck only runs 1 Blood Fountain any way of recycling creatures is beneficial and since you mana base is majority swamps you shouldn't have much trouble hitting the 3 swamp req.
@wbw911

@@GoldLotusPauperMTG I mean... it is only relevant late game anyway XD unless you are in a hurry of having untapped mana but the deck's speed is not likely to differ much in this context anyway

I never realized that the reason why people play cast down in pauper is that there’s no commons. I always wondered why people didn’t play infernal grasp or go for the throat. I never thought about there not being any common legendaries
@GoldLotusPauperMTG
Жыл бұрын
That's basically the reason, but ironically there actually IS common legendary creatures. They're all pretty terrible and will never ever see any play in pauper, but yes due to the fact that the few common legendaries that exist all suck, Cast Down is king of removal because it can deal with any non hexproof creature!

Agreed. Worst part is that it's not even paper pauper that's abusing it, it's only MTGO that's going to ruin it for everyone

This is a cool deck. I wonder if it can be made without the troll and lembass? I know they are good but I cannot stand any of the Universes beyond stuff. I'd rather lose than play with it. 😂
@GoldLotusPauperMTG
Жыл бұрын
I mean it could but for this deck to properly combat the aggressiveness of the format currently you need the Lembas as a recurring value generator and life gain source. The Troll you can easily go without but closing out games is going to be much, much harder. Troll is a early game mana fixer and a late game bomb. There's lots of different decks build options for this deck, it's just about finding a build you find best for you!

@@GoldLotusPauperMTG definitely. I don't immediately see a way to go without those cards. I'll have to pass on this one until WOTC makes a functional reprint of those.

I feel that resentment. It feels really cool, when you play "block constructed", but really off, when it's in a normal deck. You could say the same about other planes, but entering another franchise feels weird. Guess we have to get used to it.

I am torn on this topic of the whole MTG Universes Beyond because in some sense the Multiverses from other High Fantasy Worlds like Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons blend almost perfectly with the MTG planes of existence. But things like The Walking Dead, Warhammer 40k, My little Pony, Street Fighter, etc etc I can't get on board with. I don't know, different strokes for different folks I suppose. I'm old school(ish)
