Hey, back again! I bought into a lot of these alliances lands about 9 months ago and I’m absolutely shocked that thawing glaciers hasn’t caught on even sooner. I think it’s too cheap! Bought 4 at $10 a piece and well, now the return is a lot bigger! I’m sure I’ll keep making more comments on your videos but I’m on the same page as you and look forward to seeing more about the reserve list and investment side of things! Great video! Thank you!

Oboro jumped to $50 because you can pay 1 and return it for landfall and it only taps for blue. Undiscovered paradise taps for any color and returns to hand for free. Plus being reserved list that seems undervalued

Alliances had a small print run for its day. Ice Age was MASSIVELY printed, as was Homelands, which no one wanted. Alliances had a much, much smaller and shorter print run than the sets around it because it came out just four months before Mirage and at that time, they just printed the cards they thought they could sell and that was it. That's part of why Alliances has a $100 uncommon and multiple $50+ rares while Ice Age has a single $30 card, a $12 uncommon, some $10 lands, and everything else is under $2. Tempest changed the way sets were printed but I can't quite remember exactly how and can't find it anywhere. I believe it was the first set that was printed for a specific amount of time rather than a specific amount of cards. That gave it a pretty high distribution for its day.

You forgot to mention the phasing part on Teferis Isle. It’s actually two mana Every other turn which makes a huge difference. All the other recommendations are ok but Teferis Isle should be kept off the list. Just my opinion.

I think we r already seeing it come back. Blink decks got bigger in modern h2 as well as DnD FR. I know it's a separate mechanic, but sometimes u want to "blink" without losing buffs and phasing gets that done!

@MTGMOXMAN
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dante! thanks for the question. simple answer, NOPE they have not peaked but at the same time growth in duels will be slow and steady. There are lots out there problem is some people are hoarding them drawing up the price. They are staple cards for collectors and I see them as very collectible and desirable and I see buy them when I can afford them. 10 duels or 1 mox? duels will grow more then a single mox

Phasing makes Terefi's Isle unplayable (except for maybe landfall decks)
@MTGMOXMAN
3 жыл бұрын
Yes Zonimi the land has drawbacks but there are untapping cards and enchantments that could be used, and although not the most likely to be used you can always check out what Combos people have made, example Argothian Elder, Blossom Dryad, Twiddle to name a few?
@zonimi
3 жыл бұрын
@@MTGMOXMAN But being able to use it only every other turn gives it, functionally, no additional mana value - in fact less as I believe it will phase out before you are able to use it on second turn, meaning it is a land that taps for 2 mana after seeing your 3rd turn after coming into play. So unless you build some combos around either making the come into play triggers valuable or get it untapped right away it is not very usable. I do see some value for that Landfall deck - getting an extra trigger every other turn - but even that is marginal.

@@MTGMOXMAN As I started buying Lake of the Dead 2 weeks ago I want to give you my reasons why I chose this card and I am curious what you think of my reasons. 1.reserve list 2.artwork 3.afaik unique effect with a build in ritual 4.scarcity ( it is less often offered than fe cradle., but that might be because people are more inclined to go through their collection for a 500€ card than a 50€) What speaks against the card is the cabal coffers + urbog combo in a way as it produces so much mana and lake falls off late game if we want it for mana( I am thinking commander ) but is a great draw early and enables powerful turn 2 / 3 plays. If there should come something along in the future that we want lands in the graveyard or forcus more on sacrifice lake has a whole new bucket of utility also there is the small upside potential that lake has multiply banns and the slight chance to the unbannend. I like to compare it for its potential upside to serras sanctum as they have similar listings. Lake of the dead is older but I think you can do ( at least for now ) more cool stuff with serras sanctum. This is assuming similar print runs though, which I do not know. Urzas boxes are also way more expensive than alliance which might indicate urzas had a smaller run.

I don’t think it’s ever gonna spike like that without a major rules change. Cards are spiking atm because of cEDH - which coincidentally also reflects how things spike in vintage and other eternal formats. A card HAS to be good on its own before it could ever hope to spike like Gilded Drake/LED/insert choice card. The most I could ever see it realistically hitting is like $20 just due to scarcity or people trying to buy it out. Like the blue Karoo land you featured. That one is good on its own without a combo. That one will hit $100 at least.
