I'm so glad that the current, but soon to retire, British made Metro Cammell M train still holds the same motor sound as it did over 40 years ago. I've had the privilege to travel on the old M train in the mid 90s as a little boy and for the last time as a teenager in 2001 from Quarry Bay to Kowloon Bay. Even with the modernized look, I'm glad the motor sound is still there. That sound is music to me as I remembered it over 30 years ago. Hope to ride it for the last time before its final retirement. Hopefully, I'll have the chance to since I don't live in Hong Kong, but in the United States. Thank you for the information on each train!

Actually, up unti 1995, they used resistive control so they used to sound different. During the refurbishment in the mid to late 1990s they retrofitted chopper control.

ncie vid, very detailed. M , MLR and A train are my favorite. San Fran BART legacy fleet A cars (ADtranz IGBT VVVF) (sadly have just retied) also have similar sound of the A train , with higher pitch at starting and changing frequency.

Tung Chung Line and Airport Express trains are my favourite! They sound so powerful imo and had the speed to match as they zipped under the West Kowloon Highway! I may not understand the thrill of hearing a car revving, but I do get the same thrill from the TC line, haha

Stupid question, but why were the Phase 2 lrvs retired before the Phase 1 ones?
@LTrains999

the phase 1 lrvs were refurbished, but the phase 2 lrvs weren't, so they were retired before the phase 1s.

Honestly this is a great question. I'm wondering about this too, cause they initially said they will refurbish Phase 2

ok so may I ask how you know the sp1900 top speed is 140 kph and not 160? because according to wiki it's 160

@@LTrains999 Wiki is not the most trustworthy source as anyone could simply modified it. Also in Manufacture website,it never mention the train can go up to 160km/h... it must not assume the maximum design speed by the speed odometer
