2001 New Flyer C40LF Cummins C Gas Plus Allison B400R Nice sounding Allison, quite louder than normal. Has a nice combination of Allison and MAN axles.
New Flyer sure makes good buses. Them and Nova. Love riding in a NovaBus LFS, but for nostalgia purposes since I was born in the ‘90’s nothing beats the New Flyer D40

Chula Vista Transit is still separate from MTS for now but is expected to move into south bay in January at the earliest. South bay division has completed its expansion which can not only accommodate xn60 rapid buses as well as the addition of Chula vista transit. Integration is still under negotiations, but I am sure once those are done, then it can move into south bay.

Saw 1871 not that long ago as a training bus for either route 50 or 150 on the Coaster.

This route was via Genesee Ave., Governor Dr., and Regents Rd. before.

I believe that imperial ave division is down to 5 or 6 1801 buses. 1801 buses are common on certain 20 runs out of Kearny mesa division which deadhead back to the garage once they get to Rancho Bernardo station. I believe kearny mesa has not retired theirs as I have not seen a gillig bus tied to that garage. I think imperial ave will retire their batch of 1801 buses then kearny mesa. Perhaps mts is training the KMD drivers to operate the new gillig buses.

1MTSRider You should get a lot of recordings while you can, for me I'm just getting many recordings of our 1995 and 1996 NFI D40LF's before they get replaced with XN40's. Yuck, I feel sorry for you guys and is MTS planning on saving one bus ?

Ninja Bus Fan good news got a recording of #1846 Wed morning on route 20. Then I was lucky to get a picture if it at Miramar College Transit Center in the afternoon. Will post vid sometime soon. As far as MTS preserving these 2001 New Flyers, doubt it. What a bummer.

Ninja Bus Fan also send uploads of your '95/'96 D40s. Would love to check them out. Ya, one thing for sure, bus scene is changing, and not for the better. This hobby for me will be a dead one, maybe w/in a year? Its sad.

One guy in the fanning scene named jake said that this route is also good if you ride the 301 class buses.

The 301s are okay, but IMO, not that exciting, especially in comparison to the 1801s. Besides the 1801s, the next best, is the small KMD fleet of '05 401-class C40LFs. Jake loves the 301s, and me, well take it or leave em, not a big fan.

This sounds familiar. My city had c gas with zf transmission. real loud, couldn’t hear your friend next to you if you sat at the back

1870 was at del lago today. No idea why it was there but I have seen Imperial ave 18's at del lago before. Could it be a training bus or is it going to be retired. I am thinking training but it was in full san diego transit livery with the San Diego County credit union ad on it.

This scene also happened this summer where there were 2 1801 buses at del lago but someone said they were training or could those have been buses being sent to Murrietta.

1MTSRider Today must have been their traning day as there were plenty of training buses going to Del Lago as well as downtown. MTS is hiring for new bus operators, which could explain the training buses.

Mike H I did see 404 or was it 403 at escondido transit center that was marked not in service but I think that was a training bus for probably route 235 or was it a general training bus. In a year or so, nctd will be the only transit authority in the region with c40lf with c gas and allison transmission. I find it amazing that nctd keeps their slf buses in good condition as parts are hard to find for those buses as they come from England, though they were built here.

Also nctd c40lf are really slow which makes the MTS buses look fast in comparison. I think the gearing on the nctd buses are geared for cng mileage as they don't Rev so high compared to mts buses, though nctd uses the 305 tires while mts uses the 275 metro miler tires which are smaller and might contribute to their performance.

Great route but drivers have to be careful as there is a steep grade.
