Let's visit Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in the ancient capital of Georgia.
Mtskheta (მცხეთა in Georgian) is one of the oldest cities in the current Republic of Georgia, in fact many of its buildings were built almost 2000 years ago. Located in the east of the country near Tbilisi, it was the capital of the kingdom of Iberia between the 3th century BC and the 5th century AD.
The Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church is based in Mtskheta and it was here that in the year 317 the Georgians converted to Christianity. In 2014 Mtskheta was declared a Holy City.
