I hope you find this useful! Would love to hear about any muffling+lever change techniques you use! I'm using as an example Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C major, which is a fantastic piece to practice lever changes and muffles. Lots of arrangements for lever harp exist, including in my book "Transcriptions for Lever Harp" at www.joshlayne.com/store/?product=transcriptions-for-lever-harp-volume-1-downloadable-sheet-music-pdf (If you're my patron at the $3+ level you can get a free copy of my arrangement of the Prelude at www.patreon.com/posts/62325097 )

Pedal muffling during gliss’s? Have I missed one on that?

So graceful! And only a very light touch is needed, really. Thanks!

I have been playing a piece of music written for the piano on the lever harp. There are a couple of measures with five notes (two on the left hand and then three on the right hand) going in a steady quick pace that require lever changes in between. In two instances I found myself muffling a string that got played by the LH with the 4th finger on my right hand. The RH then went on to do its thing while I execute the lever change with the LH. I thought that was some pretty fun lever gymnastics ha ha!

Great episode thanks Josh! I'd love to see more episodes on this from you. I'm working on a piece where the RH plays middle C and D and they have to be lever changed simultaneously directly after being played. How do you muffle just two notes and change the two levers at once? Some more examples of creative muffling strategies would be so helpful!

Thanks Angela! Hmm, can you immediately replace on those strings with the RH to muffle or are you playing other notes? I'm actually hoping to do an episode on problem solving viewer's fingering and other questions - this might be a great candidate :)

@@JoshLayne thanks Josh. In the last week I've managed to just get faster at doing it. I muffle the two strings with two finger and then in that same movement somehow flick the levers simultaneously just after and flick a third lever. I just worked on trying to get my RH on autopilot and my LH on doing whole thing as it it is one movement. Took a while to get but I think I'm there now. I actually did try seeing if I could do it with the RH. That could work but the challenge I had is that the RH is playing 2 notes right after going up so it would be effectively replacing in an opposite direction to playing and this felt more awkward. Appreciate your help!

Great talk through. It is so seamless when you do it, practically unnoticeable.. now I have to go and rewatch some of your old videos and look out for the times you muffle like this! 👀

Do you think levers can be changed with the right hand?
