STORYLINE:
Zimbabwe's ruling ZANU PF party welcomed Monday's decision by Commonwealth leaders to delay a decision on whether to suspend Zimbabwe from the organisation until after the March 9-10 elections.
Speaking to a rally in Gweru on Monday, Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe said British Prime Minister Tony Blair should concentrate on the problems in his own country, instead of interfering in Zimbabwe's affairs.
Zimbabwe's opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), expressed disappointment with the Commonwealth decision.
At a press conference in Harare on Monday, the MDC shadow Foreign Minister blamed the Mugabe government for carrying on a campaign of violence and intimidation in the run up to the election.
MDC spokesman Learnmore Jondwe said police broke up a meeting between the MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and foreign diplomats earlier that day.
According to the MDC, police declared the meeting with about 35 ambassadors illegal under new security laws requiring police permission for political gatherings.
Jondwe said the action is an example of the crisis that the MDC faces as the opposition party.
