I have a regular playgroup of three, including myself. I heard about brawl on this show and created four brawl decks (Krenko goblins, Kumehna Merfolk, Depala Dwarven vehicles, and Ojutai blue-white deck I call my "Sonic the Hedgehog" deck). We had fun with the decks, but there were few real play differences between brawl and Commander. The big difference is that it will be easier to build and play tribal decks with a lower budget (especially if you ignore the 2-block legality rule, which we did).
@JMSginoclave

I played around 20 Brawl games, half multi and half single player, and tbh, they're different formats. 1x1 obviously requires you to go faster, and thus it ends up becoming smth like "Standard Highlander", where "Standard Commander" value decks just sorta fall short. Dominaria's Izzet Wizards, for example, can get turn 4-6 wins on 1x1, but I've yet to see it win a single multiplayer game.

Perpetual time piece is also a great a card for Meren deck. Didn't know it existed until like two weeks ago and realized it's the perfect card for a deck like Meren. The fatal flaw of her colors is no real way to protect your grave yard (pretty much all green graveyard protection also shuts off Meren's ability.) But this card is perfect to responding graveyard removal to save your key pieces.

I'm blown away no one has mentioned "Gonti's Machinations" in Muldrotha lists. You can easily run a decent energy package, and if you run the lain deserts, you can easily tick up the energy needed. Also, attune with aether is unbanned for Brawl and Demon of Dark schemes is a solid include with muldrotha. Just some ideas. Oh, btw, Era of Innovation is a fun card to use with muldrotha

Thanks dudes (mostly Josh?) for pushing out the show during your crazy hell month. To answer your question, I've definitely been playing brawl and I absolutely love it! I'm newish to Magic and mostly play standard at FNM. I've built a couple commander decks but I haven't found a regular play group... so they mostly sit around unused. Brawl is awesome because I can hit up my typical FNM crew during the week and usually get a game going. We're constantly trading cards for standard so brawl fits right in. Most of my FNM group now has a brawl deck and we're planning to play tomorrow before the standard tourney!

Ipnu Rivulet and Perpetual Timepiece are honestly the best value generators in standard right now if you are playing a graveyard based deck. I like Nissa mechanically in this deck but I chose to play with Liliana, Death's Majesty which I think is a much better choice. She's expensive at 6 but the value you get is like dumping jet fuel on this deck when its played. If you have the mana playing Vraska and Liliana back to back can nearly clear an enemy board or at least cripple it. +1 Create a 2/2 black Zombie creature token. Put the top two cards of your library into your graveyard. - This is absolutely fantastic, it dumps a creature on the board and mills you for Muldrotha fodder. The REAL reason for this card though is her next power, -3 Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. That creature is a black zombie in addition to its other colors and types. - Having this card out to also yank creatures out of your graveyard in addition to Muldrotha or even pulling Muldrotha back out is awesome. If you happen to get her ult which is only -7 you destroy all non-Zombie creatures. The occasional board-wipe-on-a-stick is pretty good. Great video though! I absolutely love Muldrotha and think she's gonna be fun to play for years to come!

a bit new to Commander at MTG but after looking online for cards that return Instants and Sorcery to your hand...i found TONS. I feel like you can definitely get away with playing 6 each of instants and sorcery spells if you wanted to as long as you splashed in cards like: Archaeomancer, Mnemonic Wall, Possessed Skaab, and Spellkeeper Weird. Then you got some of the new ones that came out since this video like: Salvager of Secrets and Scholar of the Ages. Sure they might be more Land to play but surely its worth it no?

I have been playing since 2000. I am the whale. If it has been printed I have owned it in both paper and digital (except the power nine) and tabernacle. I am only going to say this once- Any new format supported by Wizards is a good thing for the game as a whole. It does not matter if it rotates or not. I don't understand players not wanting to run the most powerful things you have access to or being unhappy with new brewing spaces. Yes some cards are expensive, yes I understand you are not made of money but it gives you something to work for. Brawl is good for the whole community just like Two Headed Giant, Emperor, Tiny Leaders and Frontier which are all great formats I would love to see added to the Competitive tournaments but were ignored by the masses.

arthaiser That is just being contrary for the sake of being so. It is the same mentality of people pushing for a ''safe'' standard environment when sales from the last few sets show what people actually want are powerful breakable cards. Trying to be non-competitive in a competitive game or complaining about how fast the meta is solved and seeing the same combos and decks over and over again while at the same time you only play one or two formats is what the problem is. It's this notion of trying to persuade the salty players to stay and play by nerfing the game.
@ghostofkrows
6 жыл бұрын
FRANKENBEAR 69 Yeah they chose the cut off based on when the cardframe was changed. There really does need to be a format somewhere between Modern and Standard though. It would ease the drop off of value in Standard only staples and have people less scared of going into Standard knowing most of their cards will be worthless in about a year. The monetary barrier to entry for Modern will only increase as the years go by. We will have to wait and see.
