Central Missouri Mules golf garnered their first win of the season at the Firekeeper Open Tuesday, April 9 at Firekeeper Golf Course. The Mules posted a 54-hole team score of 845 (-19), winning the tournament by four strokes over Missouri Southern who shot 849 (-15).
The Mules were led by redshirt junior Alex Gentry who earned the individual title with a final day round of 69 (-3). Gentry's 54-hole total of 203 (-13) tied the UCM school record low 54-hole total.
Close behind was sophomore Jack Hope who finished tied for fourth. Hope posted a final round of 73 (+1) to end the tournament at 4-under par (212).
Junior Brooks Baldwin and senior Robbie Sager were next for the Mules. Baldwin finished tied for 21st at 1-over par (217) with a final round of 71 (-1). Sager ended tied for 29th at 3-over par (219) after carding a final round of 75 (+3).
Sophomore Andrew Whittaker rounded out the Mules scores finishing tied for 31st. Whittaker posted a final round 73 (+1) to end the event at 4-over (220).
Competing individually, freshman CJ Phillips finished tied for 14th at 2-under (214) with a final round of 71 (-1) and redshirt junior Calvin Dillon finished tied for 21st at 1-over par (217) with a final round of 70 (-2).
This was the last regular season event for the Mules as they prepare for the MIAA Men's Golf Championship April 15-17 at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City.
